Helambu Trekking besides mountain views the culture and traditional life of hill villages is equally impressive and worth visiting this nice and beautiful country covered with enchanting woodland of tall rhododendron-magnolia-pines and oaks tree lines in the backdrop of rolling green hills and white snow capped peaks.

Starting Helambu Trekking taking a short drive to reach isolated and historic town of Sankhu located within Kathmandu valley rim towards north east, where walk begins heading to scenic Hill town at Nagarkot offers stunning sunrise views over array of peaks.

From Nagarkot on the high trail towards Chisapani and then higher to reach at lovely charming village at Tarke-Gyang home of Hyalmo people a small tribe of Nepal Himalaya with strong Buddhist religion and impressive culture, which you can observe with time around this nice friendly village, and then after a lovely and interesting time on Helambu Trek around high country of Nepal Mid Hills, where walk leads to warmer low areas for drive back to Kathmandu.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Drive to Shankhu and Trek to Nagarkot (1932m/6338ft)./6hrs
Day 02: Trek to  Chisapani (2165m/7103ft).6hrs
Day 03: Trek to Kutumsang(2470m/8103ft).5hrs
Day 04: Trek to Thadepati(3690m/12106ft).6hrs
Day 05: Trek to Tarkegyang(2600m/8530ft).5hrs
Day 06: Trek to Sermathang(2590m/8497ft).4 hrs
Day 07: Trek to Melamchi Bazar  (870m/2854ft)and Drive to Kathmandu (1300m/4265ft). 4 hrs trek and 3hrs drive

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Drive to Shankhu and Trek to Nagarkot (1,932m/6338ft) - 6hrs.
Morning start from the hotel after breakfast where short drive takes you to north east of Kathmandu valley rim past the main town and city to reach at old Shankhu, an interesting religious and historical old town where walk starts uphill to reach Jarsing Pawa.

From here our route diverts on downhill path to Kartike-Bhanyang, with an hour climb to reach at renowned tourist spot in Nagarkot for overnight stop.

Nagarkot situated 2,100 m high a popular place stunning sunrise and sunset reflecting on snow capped mountains range from Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Jugal Himal Mt. Gauri Shanker and all the way towards east near Everest range.

Day 02: Trek to  Chisapani (2,165m/ 7,103ft) -06 hrs
From Nargarkot head downhill to Kartike and towards Chowki Bhanjyang after Jarsing Pawa, heading high hill climb within cool shade of forest with wide views of Himalayan peaks as walk enters a high ridge line to reach at Chisapani small village.

Chisopani located north of Kathmandu high hills, where air is cooler at 2,300 meters facing views of snowcapped peak ranges from Annapurna-Manaslu-Ganesh Himal, Lang tang Himal with Jugal Himal range includes views of Kathmandu valley, this spot offers stunning sunrise and sunset views.

Day 03:  Trek to Kutumsang(2,470m/ 8,103ft) -05hrs.
Early morning catch striking sunrise views over chain of peaks, morning walk leads downhill to a nice village Pati-Bhanjyang, and then uphill towards Thodung danda and Gul-Bhanjyang to reach overnight stop at Kutumsang village, a lovely farm village with grand views of rolling green hills, valley and snow clad mountains.  

Day 04: Trek to Thadepati (3,690m/12,106ft) -06hrs.
From Kutumsang morning walk starts with slow climb into green alpine forest of tall pines-fir-magnolia and rhododendron trees, then reaching a wide open green field, after crossing a hill top of Kyuola Bhanjyang at 3,280 m and with short climb reaches you on top Thadepati at 3,690 m high with many simple lodges for overnight stop, offers views of beautiful landscapes and snowcapped peaks. 

Day 05: Trek to Tarke-Gyang (2,600m/ 8,530 ft)-05hrs.
Morning walk leads to steep descend into forested area to reach farm village of Melamche-Gaon, and then downhill to Melamche Khola / stream, crossing a bridge uphill to Tarke-Ghyang village with views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal range.

Tarke-Ghyang one of the most attractive village around Himalaya, famous for wood-work and wood carving as well for delicious apples grown around this beautiful area of Helambu.  

Hyalmo tribes are the main habitants with strong Buddhist religion similar to Sherpa and Tamang culture.

 

At Tarke-Ghyang village for overnight stop in the comfort of nice homely lodge, with time for walk around oldest monastery of the area full of impressive Buddhist culture.

Day 06: Trek to Sermathang (2,590m/8,497ft) -04 hrs
Enjoying marvelous times at Tarke-Ghyang among friendly locals, our short day walk leads on pleasant path around pristine forest facing views of beautiful Helambu villages, as walk continues past chhorten a prayer Buddhist monuments with views of rolling green hills then reaching at Shermathang village for overnight stop, Sermathang, another nice village of Helambu with afternoon free to visit its old monastery of great interest full of ancient artifacts and idols.

Day 07: Trek to Melamchi Bazar (8,70m/ 2,854 ft) and drive to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265 ft) -04 hrs walks and 3 hrs ride.
With last day on high hills and around Helambu area, morning leads to pleasant downhill walk past many farm village to Malemchi Bazaar a busy town a low and warmer areas, after a brief refreshing stop taking a drive to reach back at Kathmandu, after a great wonderful time on Helambu Trekking.
