After 51 long years without a single confirmed successful ascent, Lamjung Himal (6,983m) has finally been climbed again—this time not by foreign alpinists, but by a group of young Nepali climbers who turned an impossible dream into a national achievement.
On October 27, 2025 (Kartik 11, 2082), a four-member Nepali team successfully reached the summit of Lamjung Himal at 3:00 PM local time, marking the mountain’s second officially documented ascent since 1974. The successful climbers—Sandeep Gurung, Sujal Gurung, and Buddhabahadur Gurung from Laprak, Dharche-4 of Gorkha, along with Purtenji Sherpa from Solukhumbu—returned safely, inspiring pride throughout the country.
The expedition was organised through Himalayan Summit Club. The climbing team originally consisted of seven members, including two foreigners and one more Nepali climber, but adverse weather conditions forced three of them to retreat, leaving the four Nepali climbers to push through to the summit.

“This is a historic moment not just for us, but for Nepal’s mountaineering community. Many attempts were made for decades, but no one could succeed. We are proud to have achieved this in our very first attempt.”
