Mera Peak Climbing – 17 Days is an adventure in the  Himalaya that leads you to exciting walks and climb, in a different way than other major trekking trails of Everest taking a scenic drive from Kathmandu on less visited areas of Solu south of Khumbu and Everest region.

Mera Peak Climbing of 17 days, truly a great journey on hidden trails to reach at Mera Peak base camp where few trekkers and adventurer seldom use this route, away from main stream trekking path.

Mera Peak Climbing – 17 days allows you enough time for acclimatization as well to practice on rugged hills and glaciers before the main adventure to reach on top Mera Peak, which rises at the height of 6,461 m and 21,190 ft, one of the highest trekking peaks of Nepal Himalaya.

The grade of the climb to Mera Peak summit we have from a famous and popular classification using French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Systems as ‘F’ which means ‘Facial –Easy’ which leads to less technical mountain to climb, but with steep vigorous ups and steep descents to tackle.

Where all interested people joining in this trip has to be in good physical shape with sound health, having full climbing gears for this adventurous Mera Peak Climbing within 17 Days duration.

Starting with the overland journey from Kathmandu to reach at Solu areas located Nepal Mid-East within the south of Everest, where walk leads to nice and interesting villages of Sherpa and other mix hill tribes witness impressive farm areas of Phaplu-Tak Shindo-Nunthala-Khari-Khola and towards remote corners within beautiful Inkhu valley to reach Mera Peak base camp.

At base camp with ample time to get organized and practice exercise getting ready for the big haul and climb on top Mera Peak following a strenuous slope of ice and snow, from the top where you will be rewarded with an amazing panorama of Khumbu and Makalu area mountains with Everest.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu to Phaplu on sharing jeep (2,413 meter/ 9,980 feet) - 12/13 hours.
Our great adventure to Mera Peak Climb begins with exciting overland journey towards eastern Nepal reaching at Solu, located south of Everest, where drive leads past towns and villages of Himalayan foothills and to lovely place of Dhulikhel. As drive continues heading further east on winding dirt road to Ramechap then reaching at Solu areas past Salleri headquarter town of Solu-Khumbu and then at Sherpa village of Phaplu for overnight stop.
Day 02: Trek to Taksindu Dada (2,931 meters /9616 feet)- 5/6 hours.
After a wonderful overnight in Phaplu within Sherpa village, morning walk leads on winding path with first glimpse of Khumbu Mountains as walk leads uphill to cross a bridge with short climb to Ringmo village. From Ringmo, a gradual climb into forested area of pines and rhododendron trees to reach at Takshindu hill top a pass at 3,070 m. The top adorned with Mani Stupa or chhorten with views of Numbur, Kusum Kangguru, Thamersarkhu and Kantega peaks towards North. From here a short to Takshindo village for overnight stop with time to visit its interesting monastery.
Day 03: Trek Khari Khola (2,370 m/ 7,775 m)-6/7 hours.
Morning an easy walk on long downhill into forest to Nunthala village, also called Manidingma a large hill village with Rai and Sherpa communities as walk continues down at Dudh Kosi River, crossing the river with short climb to Jubing village, from here an hour uphill to Khari-Khola for overnight stop, this is one of the large village with Sherpa, Magar and Rai village.

Day 04: Trek to Panggom (2,846meters/ 9,337 feet)-5/6 hours.
Enjoying overnight stop at Khari-Khola where morning walk leads high ridge at Pangbun, crossing over river then with steep climb for an hour to for overnight stop in this isolated Sherpa farm village, located on a hill top, offers grand views of rolling hills and valleys.

Day 05: Trek to Ningsow (2,863 meters/ 9,393 feet)-4/5 hours.
From here into pure wilderness away from main village and human settlement, as walk leads towards higher area within dense woodland of tall rhododendron, magnolia, oaks and pine with fir trees to reach at Ningsow area, which is a summer grazing pasture for domestic animals of nearby villages. Our overnight camp is set, from here on in tented camps till Lukla after Mera Peak climb.

Day 06: Trek to Chhatra-Khola (2,800 meters/ 9,186 feet) - 6/7 hours.
Morning starts with the sound of birds within deep forest surrounding, as walk heads leads towards Inkhu valley where Mera Peak located. Walk leads uphill crossing few streams within forested area encountering many temporary cattle herder shelters to reach at Chhatra-Khola where the stream flows from the source of Mera Peak and other adjoining peaks as well.

Day 07: Trek to Kothe (3,691 meters/12,109 feet)- 6/7 hours.
Today walk leads past tree lines to enter into mountainous country to reach inner Inkhu valley where trail from Lukla joins near tat Kothe on route Mera Peak base camp. Walking into tree lines and many pasture area to reach a clear and wide grassy field and Kothe for overnight camp.

Day 08: Trek to Thaknak (4,358 meters/14,297 feet) - 3/4 hours.
From Kothe, a short morning walk downhill facing excellent view of Peak 43 and Kusum Kanguru peaks, reaching at inner and scenic Inkhu valley along with views of Mera Peak South Face to reach into rhododendron and pine forest, as walk leads into forest reaching at Thaknak for overnight stop, a place with few simple huts serving as tea-house for visitors and local porters.

Day 09:  Trek to Khare (5,045 meters/16,486 feet)- 2/3 hours.
After a nice rest day our adventure continues on gradual path with few ups and downs overlooking fabulous scenery of the surrounding hills and dales that fills around Inkhu valley, as walk gets closer towards Charpatti Tal (four sided lake) dammed by ricks and moraine, and then climb for a short period which lead to a descend within a large meadow at Khare our overnight camping site which is also a Mera Peak base camp.

Day 10: Acclimatization day in Khare and Pre-Climbing Training and become familiar with using crampons, Carabiners, figure eight, rope Ice Axe etc.
Here having a rest day after a walk of more than a week duration which is important for acclimatization as well to practice climb on glacier, around icy and rocky area, rest of the afternoon relax and preparation for the climb of Mera Peak.

Day 11
: Climb Mera High Camp (5,780 meters / 18,958 feet) 6/7 hours.
From base camp at Khare, where we have set one more camp to make this climb a great success and approachable, morning walk follows across Mera-La to reach Mera High Camp in complete tranquil environment, afternoon free after having lunch with preparation for next early morning climb on top Mera Peak, while our guides will scout the area for better routes and make the path much safer with necessary arrangement from incidental accidents.


Day 11: Climb Mera High Camp (5,780 meters / 18,958 feet) - 6/7 hours.
Starting early morning with serious climb and without any technical problem, as route leads to straightforward climb, however one needs to take safety measures equipped with crampons, ice axe, helmets, after a strenuous climb finally reaching on top Mera Peak summit top, facing panorama of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho- Oyu all the way to Mt. Kanchenjunga. After the climb feeling high then descend on same route and trek all the way to base camp at Khare, feeling tired and exhausted but glad to have done this marvelous adventure climb on top Mera peak.

Mt. Himlung expedition

Day 13: Reserve Day for Contingency. An extra day as contingency or reserve day in case of unfavorable weather conditions, if all goes well this spare can be used on the way to Lukla or on-route.

Day 14: Trek to Kothe (3,600 meters/11,808 feet) -4/5 hours. From Khare and Mera Peak base camp return journey will be pleasant without problem of altitude gain, although walks leads to few ups and downs and back into green vegetations and tree lines at Kothe within a small cattle herders shelters.

Day 15: Trek to Thuli-Kharka (4,300 meters/14,07 ft) - 5/6 hours.
Morning walk continues leading into dense woodland with steep climb on some small hills and continue walk along grassy meadow with gradual walk to reach our last camp of the adventure at Thuli - Kharka.

Day 16: Trek down to Lukla via Zatrwa La pass  (4,610 m/ 15,124 ft)- 6/7 hours
Today, our last day of trekking of this wonderful adventure morning and whole day enjoy long day treks with climb over high ridge of Naulekh or Kalo Himal and Zatrwa Og including Zatrwa-La, after strenuous climb then descend towards Chutanga within greenery and thick forest and then ending our walk at Lukla for scenic flight back to Kathmandu, in Lukla enjoy the last dinner.

Day 17: 
Lukla (Tenzing-Hillary Airport) to Kathmandu (Tribhuvan Int´l Airport) fly back.
From Lukla the flight starts early morning to Kathmandu, sometime the flight time can get delayed due to bad weather, as per the flight time board in the small plane for a super, scenic flight back to Kathmandu, on reaching at Katmandu domestic terminal our guide and staff transfer you back to respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu in and around Thamel area, for some might connect flight to your home country or other respective destinations after flying out from Nepal.

01: How difficult and technical is Mera peak Climb?

Good news is Mera Peak one of least technical peak to climb although one of highest trekking peaks of Nepal, where grading system is just ‘F’ means “Facial Easy” used from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification.
A peak of less technical difficulty but leads to strenuous long climb to reach the summit, and taking care on descend where walk and climb leads to moraine-ice-snow and glaciers.
But all climbers need to be physically fit and in sound medical health as well having proper climbing equipment also.

02: How many nights in tents during Mera Peak Climb?

Mera Peak located far and away from villages and town with no Tea-House /Lodge on route are not available. On treks and climbs spending in tents with all camping gear and facilities with
individual kitchen unit with cook, kitchen staff, trek /climbing guides and strong porters.
With camping includes dining tents as group size with toilet tent on dug-out hole on this trek and climb spending nights in tents from Lukla till back at Lukla duration of 12 nights and 13 days as our standard itinerary.


03: Do I need climbing experience for Mera Peak Climb?

If you have done basic course which will add more to your skill but exactly not overall necessary, where one has to be good and physically fit with sound medical, where rest of the climbing skill our expert guide will instruct and teaches you before the actual climb with technique needed.
All you need a positive attitude and determination rest our guide will support you throughout the climb and brings back safely after enjoying a life time experience.

04: What types of equipment/gears do I need for Mera peak Climb?

Must be well equipped to enjoy the climb with good and standard climbing gear or equipment that includes plastic boots for climb and good quality ice-axe, most equipment listed in our home page or websites as well for trekking portions, and if you need more information on climb and gear where you can contact us, if it’s too much to carry from home, some of the items can be bought or on hire in Kathmandu.

05: Can I trek and climb solo on Mera peak Climb without guide/porters?

On trekking Peaks where individual people are not allowed as per the rules of the country for one safeties, trekking peaks or mountain expeditions where one can do it but needs to register and join with Government reputed and Registrated Company so that you will have safe adventure in the company of local guides.

06: If I get altitude sickness problem?

It is normal in Himalaya, where some people might catch slight touch of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) at above 3,000 m or 4,000 m high. One can start taking Diamox or Acetazolamide as per your doctor advice with recommend dose, has been used for assisting with acclimatization on high altitude.
Where medical reports indicates the drug might be useful in treating at early stages of altitude sickness for prevention measures. But the best remedy is to head down till one is safe and secure at certain altitude, on recovering depends on fitness level carry on or quite the onward journey to reach back at Kathmandu.
For severe illness and immediate evacuation is by helicopter as long clients insurance covers helicopter rescue and medical expenses during treatment.

07: Who/ How will I get help if I have any problem on Mera peak Climb?

All guides of White Hill Adventure are professional and have gone through basic medical training as well for high altitude sickness, where our guides helps you to in case of medical and personal problem.
We also carry portable oxygen and Gamma Bags (Pressure bags) for emergency purpose.

Besides major mountaineering expeditions where most of trekking peaks controlled by NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) where climbing fees for the peaks such as Mera Peak will be @ US $ 700 in the group of 5-7 persons if group numbers gains extra fee comes to US$ 20 per day and added on each day of during climb period.
Extra fee includes Sagarmatha and Makalu Barun National Park Fees as well.

11: Food and tea house condition:

Mera Peak Climb it will be on all on camping basis, from the start to an end of the trek and climb, the only Lodge to stay will be at Lukla for overnight stop before flying to Kathmandu.
Food served in Camping of standard quality with set meals, includes breakfast- lunch and dinner with refreshing afternoon tea / coffee will be served cooked by our expert cooks.
Most of the meals include from typical Nepalese Dal / Bhat with lentil soup and seasonal vegetables, Sherpa / Chinese / Indian dishes to Continental meals where our cook can offer delights like fresh bakeries cakes, pie and breads. All foods served are healthy and hygienic in all our camping trips. Spacious two men tents for overnights with dining tents as per group size we also
provide portable chairs and tables also, along with toilets tents.

12: Transportation and communication:

Mera Peak trek and climb involves only short flight in a small aircraft where transportation includes to ferry from hotel-airport to hotel in Kathmandu. Communication services where you can buy local SIM Card in Kathmandu or using Satellite phone will be good to carry, the line might not work in some areas on deep valley and gorge, but once on higher ridges and hills will be fine and does connect.
The only problem is for charging once from Lukla no assist for electric power except if you carry your own portable solar panel with enough extra batteries to last during the trip.

Food and tea house condition:
On this trek and climb to Mera Peak does apply Tea House / Lodge as it will be on camping basis, from the start of trek from Lukla till getting back at Lukla where accommodation will be overnight in lodge on last night. Meals served in Camping will be standard quality where all groups will have set meals, all meals from breakfast-lunch and dinner with afternoon refreshing tea /coffee will be served cooked by our expert cooks. Most of the meals include from typical Nepalese Dal / Bhat with lentil soup and seasonal vegetables, Sherpa / Chinese / Indian dishes to Continental meals where our cook can offer delights like fresh bakeries cakes, pie and breads.

 Transportation and communication:
On this trek and climb where local transportation will be in car / coach or tourist class bus as per group size that is to ferry you to domestic airport and back to your hotel in Kathmandu. Other means of transportation is taking a short scenic flight in a small aircraft to land in Lukla and to get back at Kathmandu using Dornier / Twin Otter or similar plane which is suitable for mountainous country like Nepal. As for communication where the only place will be at Lukla assists to local and overseas call, where cell-phone (mobile) available in every lodge, but in some cases like bad weather and in the hidden corner of hills and valley where communication can be disturbed. Charging facilities will be limited once you leave Lukla to charge your camera- laptop or cell phone where you can carry portable solar panel with enough batteries to last till you reach the nearest town village with facility of electric power either hydro / solar.

Not necessarily, but it will add to your advantage and skill to make you feel easier that is if you have done some basic course on climbing / mountaineering. As long you are physically fit and in sound medical health you can climb with the aid of our expert guide to reach on the top and safely back, at base camp we have time for pre-training exercise before the actual climb. Well Mera Peak is less technical to climb but leads you to vigorous uphill to the summit and with steep descend where our guides will help and support you throughout the climb and trek.

 Can I trek and climb solo on Mera peak Climb without guide/porters?
Trekking Peaks Climb is not just like trekking, where you can trek solo on your own, for trekking peaks climb or any other mountains where one need to join with reputed local and Government Registrated Company. Where you will be accompanied by expert guide and porters includes some trekking / camping staff.

If I get altitude sickness problem?
Most common trekking and climbing in Himalaya, where some people can catch minor AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) above 3,000 m / 4,000 m high if you are taking Diamox or Acetazolamide has been used for assisting with acclimatization when travelling to altitude. Some reports indicate that the drug might be useful in treating the early stages of altitude sickness in addition to its use in prevention. It has been shown that people who had headaches, nausea and felt unwell improved considerably within 30 minutes of taking the tablets. The adult dosage is one 250mg. tablet twice a day.
In some severe cases you need to descend-descend and descend till you feel safe and secure, after recovering depending upon fitness level one carry on or break m the journey heading back to Kathmandu. In some cases for quick immediate evacuation where helicopter is also available where client has to contact the head office through our staff and guide for necessary arrangement as long client holds Insurance policy that covers helicopter rescue on emergency situation.
Who/ How will I get help if I have any problem on Mera peak Climb?
All our guides are professional and have done basic medical course including high altitude sickness, our guides will help you to reach safe and secure places depending upon your problem related to medical-high altitude or domestic sides.
