Gokyo Lake Horse Riding Trek of 11 days, not to be confused with other big horses as Himalayan region can provide only smaller horse known as Tibetan ponies which is the best for rough mountain landscapes, where other big horses cannot adopt the terrain like the small Tibet ponies which are made for this type of country that you will be riding on throughout the journey.

Our wonderful adventure begins with short flight to land at Lukla airport named after heroes of Mt. Everest the late mountaineers Tenzing and Hillary, where Gokyo Lake Horse Riding Trek starts heading downhill with short ups following the bank of Dudh-Kosi River, visiting lovely Sherpa farm village to reach the entrance point of Sagarmatha National Park (a Nepali word for Mt. Everest).

From here into patch of coniferous forest to reach at famed Namche Bazaar a place with many facilities for visitors and trekkers with banks-stores and shops includes many good lodges and restaurants where colorful and busy Saturday market held every week, an interesting place to be for rest day to get acclimatize along with fabulous mountain scenery.

After a good rest horse ride on gradual scenic trail for a while, and soon our route diverts towards our main highlight to reach at Gokyo Valley and its glacial lakes as our horse ride continues past few nice settlement facing glorious views of the high country, then reaching a beautiful Gokyo main third lake for few overnight stay within its picturesque surrounding of mountains and lakes.

At Gokyo Lake within its marvelous surrounding enclosed by array of peaks with world’s 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyu which is amazingly looks close, where early morning hike takes to scenic Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m, the highest point of the adventure facing world’s four highest peaks with Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu in the east includes array of lesser mountains includes views of Gokyo valley and the lake as well Ngozumba glacier.

Day 01: Hillary Airport early morning 30 minutes scenic flight then Horse ride to Phakding 2,612 m / 8,570 f – 03 hrs.
Day 02: Horse ride to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11,287 ft via Sagarmatha National park check post – 06 hrs.
Day 03: Acclimatization and Rest day in Namche Bazaar.
Day 04: Horse rideto Phorse Village (3,810 meters/12,497 feet)-5/6 hours
Day 05: Horse ride to Machherma (4470 meters/14,663 feet)-5/6 hours.
Day 06: Horse ride to Gokyo Valley (4,800 metera/ 15744 feet)-5/6 hours.
Day 07: Trek to GokyoRi (5,357 meters/17,570 feet) and visit lakes-6/7 hours.
Day 08: Horse ride down to to Dole (4,200 meters/13,779 feet) -5/6 hours..
Day 09: Horse ride down to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meter/11,287 feet) – 06 hrs.
Day 10: Horse ride to Lukla 2,860 m / 9,383 ft – 06 hrs.
Day 11: From Lukla fly to Kathmandu end of our service with transfer to your hotel.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu to Kathmandu to Lukla at Tenzing-Hillary Airport early morning 30 minutes scenic flight then Horse ride to Phakding 2,612 m / 8,570 ft-03 hrs.

Morning depart from the hotel to Kathmandu domestic airport for exciting and scenic flight of 30 minutes to land at Lukla, a Sherpa town where all treks and adventure starts and ends

around Everest and high Khumbu region. From Lukla gradual horse ride begins with short downs and ups and then on winding trail past nice Sherpa farm villages enriched with Buddhism

religion and culture encountering series of Mani (prayer)monuments and large spinning bells. Slowly our pleasant first day walks completes reaching at Phakding a moderate size village

with many good lodges for overnight stay nearby glacial Dudh Kosi River.  

 

Day 02: Horse ride to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11,287 ft via Sagarmatha National park check post -06 hrs.
Today Horse Ride leads to famous Namche Bazaar where altitude gains as riding progress, morning starts following the river and crossing several times to reach at Monjo village near Sagarmatha National Park entrance, from here into river valley and gorge covered within nice woodland of tall rhododendron-pines and fir trees. After crossing a high last bridge with few hours climb to Namche Bazaar with stunning views of Everest-Lhotse and Kongde peaks.
Namche Bazaar at 4,440 m high an ideal place for rest day to acclimatize, the main town / village of Khumbu where colorful and exciting Saturday market takes place once a week.

Day 03: Acclimatization and Rest day in Namche Bazaar.
Rest day for acclimatization before heading higher terrain, morning after breakfast with options for hike and horse ride to Everest View Hotel or enjoy ride on top of Namche, where you can catch super landscapes scenery with Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam with series of high peaks, here enjoy visiting National Park Museum provides you with much information of Khumbu region, Sherpa history-culture-flora and fauna including detail on mountaineering.

Day 04: Horse ride to Phorse Village 3,810 m / 12,497 ft – 05- 6 hrs
From Namche Bazaar horse ride leads on gradual scenic path with uphill to reach at Mong Hill with few houses serving as Tea-House and Lodge with fantastic views of peaks, from here downhill to Phorse-Tenga near Dudh Kosi within forested area a peaceful spot with nice houses serving as good lodge on route to Gokyo Lake.

 

Day 05: Horse ride to Machherma 4,470 m /14,663 ft -05 /6 hrs.

After this isolated village where horse ride leads to a climb into rhododendron, pines, fir forest with grand views of snowcapped peaks, after few hours climb reaches at Dole a moderate size settlement with good lodges to stay.
After Dole, horse ride onto high trail for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m and Luza at 4,390m; then skirting around a ridge with views of Machherma, situated below on a small valley, then ride downhill to Machherma for overnight stop.

Day 06: Horse ride to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m /15,744 ft - 05/6 hrs.
Morning horse riding leads to Gokyo main Lake following a scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m, and then climb to a rocky path within ablation valley as ride leads past first lake and then second lakes, to reach at third main lake also called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake, this beautiful area located within Gokyo at 4,800 meters high, after lunch short walk around lake with views of Mt. Cho Oyo world’s 06th highest and Gyachung Kang that reflects on emerald Gokyo Lake.

Day 07: Trek to Gokyo-Ri 5,357 m /17,570 ft and visit lakes - 06/7 hrs.

A free day at Gokyo valley within its beautiful glacial lakes, where morning climb of few hours takes you to the highest point of the adventure on top Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m high, offering superb panorama of Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Mt. Makalu covering four world highest mountains at one glance with series of smaller peaks, enjoying views of grand peaks with massive Ngozumba Glacier and then down to Gokyo for lunch with rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 08: Horse ride down to Dole 4,200 m/13,779 ft - 05/6 hrs.

After a wonderful and exciting time around Gokyo valley and beautiful lakes, morning easier horse ride downhill to reach back at Dole, as horse ride leads with wonderful views and then heading backing into tree lines at Dole for overnight stop.

Day 09: Horse ride down to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m/11,287 ft -06 hrs.
From Dole horse riding takes you on down-hill with short climb to Mong ridge after Phortse-Tenga village, and then a long descend to reach at main trekking trail near Sanasa and Kyanjima village with views of Amadablam at close distance, after a refreshing stop a nice horse ride leads you at Namche for overnight stop.

Day 10: Horse ride to Lukla 2,860 m / 9,383 ft - 06 hrs.
Our last day horse ride and walk of the adventure where riding follows on same trail back to Lukla past Monjo, Phakding and Ghat villages crossing few times over Dudh Kosi, with last final climb to reach Lukla town for last overnight stop around high scenic Khumbu and Everest region.

Day 11: From Lukla fly to Kathmandu end of our service with transfer to your hotel.
Morning transfer to Lukla Tenzing and Hillary airport for sweeping short flight to Kathmandu facing scenic views of mountains, green scenery of hills and farm fields with nice villages and towns as flight lands at Kathmandu airport and then back to your hotel, with free afternoon to relax of great memorable adventure on Gokyo Lake Horse Riding Trek.
