From the low warm areas heading towards cooler alpine hills at Tapelejung with many interesting mountainous villages to visit enriched with traditional farm life of varied cultures with mix tribes Rai-Limbu-Magar-Gurung-Tamang with Hindu Chettries and Brahmin, higher up encounter Sherpa and Bhatia people interwoven with Buddhism religion. Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu to Birtamod drive by night bus-10 hrs.

Starting early morning taking a long overland journey on a bus heading past Kathmandu valley to reach Nepal Far South Eastern flat-land known as Terai belt at Birtamod, a large and interesting town for overnight stop after a great interesting drive observing much of Nepalese town and villages and way of life.

Day 02: Drive to Taplejung day bus -08-09 hrs.

Another long drive but with a difference as morning ride leads towards cooler alpine region past famous Ilam town with its vast Tea-Gardens to reach at Taplejung for overnight stop after a great exciting and scenic drive with views of eastern Himalayan peaks including massive range of Kanchenjunga.

Day 03:  Drive from Taplejung to Sekathum. 5/6 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight at Taplejung, morning drives leads to many smaller farm village, then reaching a river bank within mix terrains and cultivation of cardamom fields in the shade of thick trees. From here drive higher up over farm fields with short descend to overnight camp at Amjilosa a lovely farm village where air gets much cooler with dramatic change of culture of more Tibetan Buddhist religions.

Day 04: Trek to Amjilosa 2,395 m / 7,856 ft - 05/6 hrs.

Walk continues heading higher and gaining much elevation past farm fields and rural villages and catching superb views of distant peaks and rolling green hills as our trek leads into a valley filled with nice cool woodland then reaching a high village at Amjilosa for overnight stop.  

 Day 05: Trek to Gyabla/Kyapra 2,730 m/8,955 ft- 04/5 hrs.

As our journey progress along with altitude heading towards much cooler area where most of paddy farms area ends walking closer to mountainous and high hill areas encountering several scattered summer pastures and grazing areas to reach at Gyabla or Kyapra for overnight stop in this small cattle herders and farm village, where people change to more Tibetan like with same Buddhist religion and culture.

Day 06: Trek to Ghunsa 3,427 m / 11,241 ft - 05/6 hrs.

The first part of the trek on gentle trail with down-hill then leading to a climb for an hour into forest of rhododendron and pines as the walk reach a level ground near Ghunsa river, from here on gradual path to Ghunsa village for overnight in a village inhabited by Bhotia tribe community of Tibetan origin with interesting stone houses and neat small farm.

Day 07:  Rest /Acclimatization day in Ghunsa.

A perfect spot for rest days to support with acclimatization before heading further north east at Kanchenjunga base camp, an opportunity to explore this small village of impressive Buddhist culture and hike to scenic view point’s hill for better panorama of mountains and surrounding landscapes.

Day 08: Trek to Khangpachen/Kambachen 4,050 m - 05/6 hrs.

Walk from Ghunsa leads to climb following river with views of waterfalls along the walks, encountering Yak herder camps along the trail depending upon grazing season.

The trail continues from right bank of river Ghunsa, and through rhododendron and pine forest, as walk leads to a gradual ascend to Rambuk Kharkas and then crossing a small glacier landslide. The trek continues with excellent views of Khumbukarna and Janu and other high snow capped peaks. On leaving tree lines behind, heading into barren country with few short bushes and scrub of juniper, after Rambuk Kharka climb, and then trail leads to a gentle down to Khambachen after crossing a landslide section to camp at Khambachen, this scenic valley with grand views of Sharphu peaks with north face of Mt. Janu and Wedge peak.

Day 09: Trek to Lhonak 4,780 m / 13,284 ft - 04/5 hrs.

From here route follows above river for an hour and then leading further east, as walks heads down to a river, then climb reaching over rocks and boulder area which takes to a terminal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier, on leaving Ramtang Kharka (a Sheppard place) where trail joins Kanchenjunga glacier and then crossing at a junction to reach at Lhonak for overnight stop with views of Kanchenjunga glacier with Mera, Nepal Peak and Wedge Peak.

Day 10: Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp 5,143 m/16,869 ft back to Lhonak - 07/8 hrs.

This morning hike towards Kanchenjunga Base Camp at Pang Pema to reach our main highlight of the adventure, where you will be at the foot Mt. Kanchenjunga and its massive range of peaks, as walk leads to a climb high above a river facing views of Kirat Chuli, Nepal Peak, Taple Sikhar, and Givegela Chuli. The first part of the climbs is gentle and then heading through a boulder on rocky trail. Walking to a glacier path all the way to Kanchenjunga Base Camp surrounded by giant peaks and then head back to Lhonak for overnight after a marvelous and exciting walk to Kanchenjunga base camp.

Day 11: Trek to Ghunsa 3,427 m / 11,241 ft - 06/7 hrs.

Retrace the journey back on the same route past Kambachen to reach at Ghunsa after a long day walks with enjoyable time at Kanchenjunga base camp.

Day 12: Trek down to Sekathum ( 1650 m )– 06/7 hrs. 

From here walking on same route which allows you to see more of this beautiful country with views of mountains and walkingpast several scattered cattle herders summer camps to reach at Amjilosa, on lower alpine areas for overnight stop.

Day 13: Drive from Sekathum  to Taplejung (1,820 m) – 4/5 hours.

Drive from Sekathum to  taplenjung 5/6 hrs and overnight at Taplejung villges.

Day 14: Drive back to Birtamod by day bus 4/5 hrs.

After a lovely experience around high hills and mountains of Kanchenjunga, completing our scenic walks taking a drive to reach Nepal low south areas at Birtamod for last overnight stops within country eastern region, as drive leads past Ilam and its vast tea-garden, then on winding downhill to reach at main highway of Eastern Nepal on reaching at Birtamod after an exciting and scenic ride.

Day 15: Drive back to Kathmandu -10 hrs.

Starting early morning drive leads west for some hours within low warmer areas of southern Nepal and then heading higher to reach Kathmandu after driving past near Chitwan and following Trisuli River for few hours and finally back at Kathmandu, after a great wonderful adventure and memorable experience on Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek.
