The Manaslu Circuit Trek explores you around the eighth highest peak in the world, Manaslu (8163m). The Manaslu trekking is a part of the Nepalese Himalayas in west-central Nepal. The Manaslu circuit trail skirts around Manaslu massif and passes down to the Annapurna region.

Short Overview of the trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek compromises of 17 days long, fulfilling journey. The trek starts with a mild city tour in Kathmandu. The actual trek begins from S0ti Khola to Machhe Khola at 930m. Each day consists of persistent 5-6 hours of trekking. The trek goes through Jagat (1340 m), Deng (1600m), and Namrung (2630m).

The Manaslu trek rounds colorful sceneries of stony mountains, graveled land, and expansive blue sky. Moreover, the breeze flows through stalks of buckwheat fields. Another day gifts trek to less populated Lho followed by Sama Gaun (3530 m).

The 10th day offers acclimatization opportunities. Trekkers choose side trips to either Pungyen or Birendra Lake. The trek moves onto Samdo. The side trip to Tibet border features an elevation of 5100 m. Finally, the Larke-La Pass 5106 m opens colorful scenes of the Manaslu.

The highest viewpoint offers the closest possible view of the massif, glaciers, and the lowlands far below. The trek descends from Bimthang to Dharapani. After that, the drive back takes you to Kathmandu for the final departure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Nepal. Transfer to the hotel. 
The trip begins upon your arrival in Kathmandu. Our representative will wait for you outside Tribhuvan International Airport. He will receive you and transfer you to one of the finest Three Star Hotels in Kathmandu. It will be a brief meeting in our office. Meet your trek guide and the rest of the team. We'll discuss the trek and exchange the necessary documents. You can spend the rest of the day shopping for appropriate trek gear and equipment or relax at the hotel — overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu World heritage tour and prepetition for trekking
Indulge in a Kathmandu World Heritage Tour. Embark on a private car with an experienced tour guide and explore some of the most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city. The heritage tour begins with a short drive towards Swayambhunath. The ancient stupa lies atop the hill at the heart of the city. Climb the 365 stone steps to reach the top and enjoy the panoramic view of the entire city. 

Next, embark on a short ride towards Kathmandu Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka. It is a historical site that is home to the ancient Malla Palace, Kumari Ghar, and many other temples. You can choose to have your lunch at one of the restaurants. Then, drive towards Pashupatinath Temple, the largest Hindu temple in the country. Pashupatinath belongs to the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. Witness some of the oldest temples in the city, a cremation site, and a natural park. The tour ends with a visit to Boudhanath, located at the heart of bustling Boudha Town. The largest spherical stupa in the country, thousands of Buddhist pilgrims visit the stupa daily. Spend the evening preparing for the upcoming trek.

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola (700 m) from Kathmandu- 7/8 hrs. 
Manaslu Circuit Trek begins with a scenic jeep ride from Kathmandu to Soti Khola. Drive along the massive Trishuli River and Budi Gandaki River towards Arughat that lies 125km northwest of Kathmandu. Once at Arughat, you’ll embark on a public jeep and begin driving through the narrow path along with the lush forests, waterfalls, and massive Budi Gandaki River towards Soti Khola. Most of the road is in a treacherous condition. Soti Khola is a beautiful village located in the historical Gorkha District. It serves as the starting point for Manaslu Circuit Trek. Spend the evening observing the pure lifestyle and occupation of multi-ethnic tribes in the Soti Khola village.

Day 04: Trek to Machha Khola (930 m)-5/6 hrs
After breakfast, you’ll embark on the first day of the trek. Leaving Soti Khola, you'll begin trekking along the Budi Gandaki River. Climb through beautiful traditional villages towards Machha Khola. The trail climbs 200 meters in altitude and goes past Gurung villages such as Armala, Lapubesi, Nauli Khola, and Khani Besi. Walk past the army’s lighting camp at Khursani Bari and continue along the 100m tall waterfall towards Machha Khola. Catch the beautiful sight of Mt. Manaslu in the distance. Overnight in Machha Khola.

Day 05: Trek to Jagat (1,340 m) - 5/6 hrs
The day ends at Jagat village, which lies 22km north of Machha Khola. The scenic trail continues along the Budi Gandaki River and climbs towards Tatopani village. A short hike will bring you to the natural hot spring at Tatopani. You may witness many locals and tourists taking a dip in the hot spring. Take a quick dip and relieve your body pain before trekking further. Leaving Tatopani, the trail climbs towards Yaru Bagar. Enjoy a warm lunch, and continue traveling through small settlements towards Jagat. The latter section of the trail encounters a 158m long bridge. Cross the bridge and continue through the final part of the forested ridge to arrive at Jagat village.

Day 06: Trek to Deng (1,600 m) - 5/6 hrs
Jagat marks the entrance to the Manaslu Conservation area. Get your permit check before continuing through the Conservation Area. Walk along the Budi Gandaki River overlooking the beautiful terraced fields. An easy 40 min hike brings you to Salleri village that is home to two local hydropower projects. Continue trekking past the hydropower and enter the forested path to climb towards Sirdibas. Witness the majestic waterfall at Philim and continue climbing towards Chisapani Village. Enjoy your lunch, and keep walking past traditional villages of Nayak Phedi and Phewa towards Deng. The entire trek may span almost 19km in the distance.

Day 07: Trek to Namrung (2,630 m) - 6/7 hrs
Upon leaving Deng, you’ll encounter an uneasy trail going along the Budi Gandaki River. The trail drops towards Budi Gandaki river banks and then climbs through the lush rhododendron and pine forests. Begin climbing towards Rana Gaon and continue towards Bhum Village. Continue trekking through the dense pine forests towards Gap. Enjoy a warm lunch before embarking on an uphill hike towards Suksum. The last section of the trail goes over the grass meadows towards Namrung Village. The entire trek may last 6-7hr. You'll walk almost 21km in the distance and climb 1030 meters in altitude — overnight in Namrung village.

Day 08: Trek to Lho (2,957 m) - 5/6 hrs
Wake up to the beautiful view of Sringi Himal in the distance. After breakfast, you’ll embark on the trek. The destination for the day is Lho village, located at an altitude of 2975 meters. The trail goes uphill along the Budi Gandaki River. You'll enter dense forests and come out onto an open field. A short hike along the grass meadows will bring you to Lho Village. Although an easy trek, you'll walk almost 11km in the distance and climb 300 meters in altitude. Lho is a sizeable Buddhist village.

Day 09: Trek to Sama Gaun (3,530 m) - 4/5 hrs. 
Leaving Lho, you’ll begin climbing along the ridges towards Shyala village. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Himalchuli. Shyala is home to one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the region, Ribung Gomba. You can visit the monastery and meet the local monks. Many of these monks come from different parts of the area. The trail climbs towards Sama Gaun situated at 3530 meters. Spend the evening relishing the magnificent views of the nearby Himalchuli Peak and Peak 29.

Day 10: Rest day/ Acclimatization day- Side trip to either Pungyen, Manaslu Base Camp, or Birendra Lake
You can use this essential day for acclimatization before continuing with the trek. Explore the beautiful Sama Gaun and observe the local lifestyle and culture. The village is home to many Tibetans who migrated here centuries ago. Then, you can embark on a hike towards the Pungyen Monastery. As a better option, you can consider trekking to Manaslu Base Camp. A few hours of the trek through pine and spruce forests will bring you to a meadow. It continues along the rocks and glaciers towards the base camp. Enjoy the magnificent sight of Mt. Manaslu up close before heading back to the teahouse. A more comfortable option offers a short hike to Birendra Lake, a freshwater lake located in Manaslu Glacier near Pungyen Monastery.

Day 11: Trek to Samdo (3,865 m) – 3/4 hrs
Leaving Sama Gaon, you’ll embark on the Larkya La Trail. The off-beat trail climbs through treacherous rocks onto the snowcapped pass, Larkya La. Continue trekking along the Budi Gandaki River and take a detour towards Kermo Kharka. Along the way, you can witness the beautiful Mani walls. Observe the Tibetan iconography and paintings that depict the history of Tibetan Buddhism. From Kermo Kharka, the trail drops towards the riverbanks of Budi Gandaki. Cross the river, and a short hike will bring you to the Tibetan village of Samdo. The town is home to a large population of Tibetan refugees who practice a unique set of traditions and culture.

Day 12: Acclimatization Day- Side trip to Tibet Border (5,100 m)
Spend the day with a decent hike near to the Nepal-Tibet Border. A five hours trek from Samdo village will take you to Rui La Pass (4998m). Climb through the rocky path and continue trekking along the Athahra Saya Khola. The trail goes north from Samdo and takes a turn west of the main trail. A short hike and a shift eastward will bring you to Rui La. Spend some time exploring the barren valley before heading back to Samdo village for the overnight stay.

Day 13: Trek to Dharmasala (4,460 m)- 3/4 hrs
The trail further climbs towards Dharmasala. Dharmasala, also Known as Larkya Phedi, is the last settlement before Larkya La Pass. After breakfast, exit Samdo and begin climbing downhill towards the riverbanks of Budi Gandaki. Cross a sparse forest of pine and juniper trees en route to Budi Gandaki River. After crossing the river, the trail rises through the rocky path towards Larkya Bazaar, a large Buddhist settlement. After a delicious lunch, you’ll continue with the trek and climb towards Dharmasala via Salka Khola. You’ll stay in monastery-run accommodation. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing and relishing the beautiful sight of Larkya Glacier.

Day 14: Trek to Larkya-La Pass (5,213 m) to Bimthang (3,590 m)-7/8 hrs
Wake up the beautiful sight of a misty morning. After a warm breakfast, you'll embark on the most challenging part of the trek. Leaving Larkya Phedi, the trail begins to climb through the glaciated path towards Larkya La Pass. The morning will offer a clear view of the surrounding mountains. Once through the glacier and at the top, you will get the best view of the surrounding mountains. Some of the visible peaks include Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kanguru, and Annapurna II. After spending some time at the top, you’ll embark on a downhill trek. Cross over the past and continue to the other side towards Bimthang village. 

Day 15: Trek to Dharapani (1860m) - 6/7 hrs. 
The trail leaving Bimthang encounters an easy downhill hike through lush rhododendron forests. The first part of the trail contains a treacherous climb down the Bimthang Glacier. Walk past the yak pastures at Hampuk and continue through the oak and rhododendron forests towards Goa. Catch beautiful sights of oligotrophic lakes en route. The trail continues past Surki Khola towards Tilje. The trail offers the magnificent views of Manaslu, Nadi Chuli, Annapurna II, and Himalchuli peaks. Climb down from Tilje and trek towards Dharapani Village. You can choose to stay at Dharapani or embark on a local jeep ride back to Besisahar.

From Dharapani, if you have more time in hand, you can continue the trek with the Annapurna circuit. You have a choice option. You can buy a TIMS card in the Dharapani Check post, and the same Manaslu permit works in the Annapurna region. Manang and Annapurna Circuit Trek are very famous trek routes. It takes more than a week to complete the trek. 

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu 
Bid farewell to the beautiful valley as you embark on a jeep and drive back to Kathmandu. The fascinating journey goes along the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers towards Prithvi Highway. Catch the last sights of the mountains up north. From Prithvi Highway, the ride continues along the massive Trishuli River towards Kathmandu. Later in the evening, we'll take you for a delicious farewell dinner in one of the most excellent Nepali restaurants. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 17: Final departure to the destination
Today is the last day of the trip. We’ll drop you off at the airport at the time of your flight. If time permits, you can consider indulging in shopping or a brief sightseeing tour of the city. There are a few popular tourist destinations within walking distance from the hotel.
