Introduction:

Lwer Dolpo Trekking a fascinating adventurous trip with White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition, which leads you to amazing views of mountains and landscapes in the backdrop of old Bonpo (pre-Buddhism) and Tibetan Buddhism culture.

Beginning Lower Dolpo Trekking taking a flight to Nepalgunj city on warmer areas around Nepal’s Far South West Nepal, from Nepalgunj continue with next short flight to Dolpo to land at Jhupal with marvelous views of mountains on these scenic flights.

Lower Dolpo Trek starts from Jhupal to beautiful emerald Phuksumdo Lake after a good and interesting walk through Dunai, a large village / town and headquarter of Dolpo district.

From here walk past nice villages of Ankhe and Sulighat then reaching at Phuksumdo Lake and Ringmo village.

With marvelous time enjoying the rest day at Ringmo village at Phuksumdo Lake, our return journey continues over highest pass of this adventure crossing Baga-la 5,070 meters and Jeng-la 5,090 m with superb mountains views, valley and surrounding landscape.

From here heading back to Jhupal on route visiting interesting villages of Tokyu and Tarakot around high scenic route to reach at Dunai and Jhupal for last overnight in Dolpo.

Outline itinerary:

Day 01:           Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel
Day 02:           In Kathmandu morning sightseeing afternoon fly to Nepalgunj.
Day 03:           Fly to Jhupal 2,320 m then drive to Dunai 2,850m – 02 hrs.
Day 04:           Trek to Ankhe 2,896m – 06 hrs.
Day 05:           Trek to Sumdu / Sulighat village 3,500m -06 hrs.
Day 06:           Trek to Phuksumdo Lake 3,500 m – 05 hours.
Day 07:           Rest day at Phuksumdo Lake for local excursion.

Day 16:           Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj and transfer to hotel.
Day 17:           In Kathmandu free day with sightseeing tour.
Day 18:           International departure for home ward bound.

Day 01:           Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport where our White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition staff will receive for a short transfer to respective hotels around Thamel area,
tourist hub of Kathmandu.

After getting refresh from the flight our guide brief you with information of hotel, Kathmandu and Lower Dolpo Trekking.

Day 02:           Morning sightseeing tour afternoon fly to Nepalgunj.
Morning our city guide will take you for half day tour around Kathmandu at places of interest. Kathmandu Valley steeped with history and culture listed as World Heritage Sites the holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old Royal Palaces and courtyard; after sightseeing tour return to hotel, afternoon flight to Nepal Far South West at Nepalgunj.

Nepalgunj located near India border, during flight view of Himalayan Mountains reaching Nepalgunj airport, transfer to respective hotels for overnight stop.

Day 03:           Fly to Jhupal 2,320 m then trek to Dunai 2,850m – 03 hrs.
Early breakfast for another short flight to Jhupal in Dolpo, at Jhupal join with our trekking staff and trek to Dunai for overnight stop, walk leads through interesting farm villages and farm lands with views of snow capped peaks in the distance in Jhupal in the comfort of nice lodge.

Day 04:           Trek to Ankhe 2,896m – 06 hrs.
After overnight in Dunai, morning walk through market and crossing bridge over Thulo Bheri River and then climb over a ridge to Phuksumdo River valley with views of Kagmara peak, from here trek leads downhill passing spread out houses with walnut trees close to a stream at Dhera a small cattle herders settlements. From here a short climb to Rahagaon village of Thakuri Hindu people, then downhill into thick forest to reach overnight camp at Ankhe, a small village and entrance gate of Shey Phuksumdo National Park.

Day 05:           Trek to Sumdu / Sulighat village 3,500m -06 hrs.
From Ankhe morning walk with short climb and descend through forest reaching a river bank, from here climb on leaving the forest, from the top walk downhill to forested area leading upstream to cross a small bridge at Ryajik village, trek further to Sumdu near Sulighat village for overnight stop.

Day 06:           Trek to Phuksumdo Lake 3,500 m – 05 hours.
Morning walk leads to our first destination at Phuksumdo Lake after Pungmo Kholas valley and crossing streams, following Pungmo Khola downhill into pine and birch trees to reach at upper side of Phokshindo Khola, after a short break continue walk to Ringmo village, an interesting, attractive Tibetan like village with mud plastered chortens and Mani (prayer) walls.

From here a short walk to Phokshindo Lake for overnight camp by the shore of beautiful turquoise Phuksumdo Lake.

Day 07:           Rest day at Phokshumdo Lake for local excursion.
A perfect place for free and rest day, just relax and marvel the beautiful views of surrounding landscapes and peaks of Kagmara, or visit this interesting Ringmo village and walk to the lake side.

Day 08:           Cross Baga La 5,070m and to Phedi 4,470m – 07 hrs.
After an enjoyable and interesting time at Ringmo village and Phuksumdo lake, today’s walk leads to other side of Dolpo area towards east by an alternative way crossing few passes, starting the morning walk on a pleasant and gradual trail and then leading to an uphill climb to cross over Baga-la at 5,070 meters, with steep climb for about 03 hours to reach the top of the pass, the top offers overwhelming panorama of Phoksumdo lake and Kagmara peaks, after a great scenery walk leads to a long descend to our overnight camp to phedi, meaning base or a bottom of the hills.

Day 09:           Trek and cross Numa-la 5,190 m and to Phedi – 08 hrs.
Morning walk leads to another pass Numa-la at 5,190 meters, the highest spot of this awesome trip, walk leads to a climb on the nice grassy slopes for about three hours then reaching the top of Numa-la with impressive views of snow capped mountains from Dhaulagiri mountain range to Kagmara peak and looking down at beautiful valleys and surrounding dramatic landscapes, after an enjoyable moment descend to the base of this high pass, then with few hours of good walk on the gradual path to our overnight camp on the summer pasture fields and meadows.

Day 10:           Trek to Tokyu Gaon 4,200m via Jeng la 5,090 m – 06 hrs.
From the base of Jeng-la, morning starts with steep climb to reach top of Jeng-la pass, offers tremendous views of massive Mt. Dhaulagiri range, from here a long descend to Tarap valley, one of the largest and longest valley of Dolpo area which is about 20 k.m. which stretches following Tarap Chu River, after an easy walk for hours reaching at Tokyogaon for overnight, this is one of the most impressive and interesting village of Dolpo area, consist of more than ten villages and nice tended farm fields with an old monasteries.

Day 11:           Trek to Dho Tarap 4,040m- 05 hrs.
After Tokyugaon, morning starts with downhill walk towards Tarap Chu on broader green valley, this is one of the scenic wide valleys with lots of Sheppard’s settlements of Yaks and Sheep, and walk continues to our overnight camp at Dho Tarap, this is another interesting village with mix tribes of Tibetans origin and Magar hill tribe people.

Day 12:           Trek to Tarap Khola ( Kamekharka) 3,800m – 07 hrs.
Today, longest trek on nice pleasant valley later forms into a narrow gorge with few vegetation of bushes of juniper and wild rose, around this area might spot some wild life Blue Sheep and other mountain animals, as the walk progress reaching a confluence of River Tarap Chu and Lang Khola, overnight camp by the river after a long day walk of about 7 hours.

Day 13:           Trek to Kharigaon 3,150m – 05 hours.
Morning walk leads to last and remote area before reaching villages and town of Dolpo area, starting the morning following Tarap River and through a gorge, involves some adventure walk over some broken bridges caused by monsoon floods, and might lead to cross chilly river on foot sometimes. After an adventurous moment walk finally ends for the day to camp by the Tarap- khola close to Kharigaon a temporary cattle herders shelters.

Day 14:           Trek to Tarakot 2,850 m – 05 hrs.
Start the morning walk passing Lalberi village and then into a small wooded area, following river all the way at Tarakot, a large and interesting village with history and well maintained neat terraced farm fields, an old fortress (Dzong or Kot) guarding the village.
Tarakot village with famous old Sandul Gomba located at junction of Barbung Khola and Tarap Chu River where the overnight camp is set.

Day 15:          Trek to Dunai – 04 hrs then drive to Jhupal – 01 hr jeep ride.
After a great time at Tarakot, our last walk leads to Dunai and with short drive to Jhupal for the flight back to Kathmandu. Morning starts following many spread out villages and farmers huts, walking on wider trail with few short uphill into a valley and downhill towards Thulo Bheri River valley to reach the town at Dunai, on reaching Dunai time permitting having a lunch here then taking a jeep drive to Jhupal with for walk around Jhupal village.

Day 16:           Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj and transfer to hotel.
Morning board on a smaller aircraft for short flight to Nepalgunj, on reaching Nepalgunj, transfer to another flight back to Kathmandu with amazing views of mountains during 50 mins flight, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels.

Day 17:           Free day in Kathmandu for individual activities.
A free day in Kathmandu for own individual activities or shopping souvenirs on this day can book for another sightseeing tour in and around Kathmandu valley of Bhaktapur / Patan.

Day 18:           International departure for home ward bound.
After a memorable and great adventure in Nepal and Lower Dolpo including excellent services of White Hills Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition guides, our staff transfers you for final departure homeward bound flights.
