Ganja la pass trekking, an adventure that leads you beyond beautiful Langtang valley into remote and isolated areas where very few adventurers seldom venture this high country of Ganja-la, located close to Naya Kanga or Ganjala peaks.

Ganja-la Pass trekking a great traverse that leads you to lovely Helambu area interwoven with Buddhism religions and fascination culture of age-old heritage a wonderful place to be experience once in your lifetime.

Ganja la Pass trekking takes you above 5,130 m high to reach complete wilderness on the other side of Langtang Himal where walk leads into serene forest of tall rhododendron and pines trees to reach at Helambu and then back to Kathmandu after a glorious moment on Langtang valley and over Ganja-la Pass Trekking.

Starting this wonderful adventure with interesting overland drive on winding uphill to reach at Rasuwa district in Dhunche a headquarter town of Langtang area, where walk starts from a nice Syabrubesi village heading towards high hills covered with beautiful tall Rhododendron trees, where in spring time the whole valley and hills will be alive when wild flowers are in full bloom.

As walk proceeds where gorge opens up into a wide scenic valley at Kyanjin within picturesque Langtang Valley where hike leads to high view points on top Tsego-Ri overlooking fantastic panorama of Langtang Himal range as far towards peaks of Tibet side.

Enjoying pleasant time at Kyanjin within marvelous Langtang valley, where route leads towards southern end of the valley into off beaten tracks to reach at Ganaja-la base for overnight camp.

Next early morning crossing the highest point of the adventure over Ganja-la towards Tarke-Ghyang visiting Hyalmo the people of Helambu nice villages and monasteries before driving back to Kathmandu.

After Helambu an exciting drive leads you to Kathmandu with amazing adventure and memorable experience on Ganja la Pass trekking.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01:  Drive to Syaprubensi (1,503m /4,931ft)- 06 hrs.

Ganja-la pass trekking starts taking a scenic overland journey to Syabrubesi, as drive leads north past many towns and farm villages of Kakani, Trisuli and Ramche, then drive leads into cooler areas within green alpine hills, after leaving low warm areas of paddy fields. Reaching cooler high Langtang Himal area within its National Park as drive enter at Dhunche town located at above 1,965m high, a headquarter town of Langtang  Himal area within Rasuwa district. From here continue further downhill on winding road to reach our overnight stop at Syabrubesi village.

Day 02: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,450m / 8,038 ft) 4/5 hrs.

First day walk starts with few hours climb then on gentle and gradual path through terraced farms and scattered villages, trek continues reaching a river side, after short rest walk leads to uphill into cool forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines tree entering into a river gorge as walk leads to Lama Hotel for overnight stop, located in midst of alpine forest.

Day 03: Trek to Langtang Valley (3,430 m/11, 253 ft) 4/5 hrs.

After a nice morning, where walk starts following river within a gorge covered with forest, as walk takes you to nice spot at Ghoretabla means stable for horse, from here onwards altitude gains gradually as air gets cooler. From Ghoretabla walk continues for another few hours and then reaching at Langtang village, a nice moderate size village of Tamang tribe people, native of Langtang Himal areas of Buddhism religion and impressive culture.

Day 04: Trek to Kyanjing Gumpa (3,830m/12565 ft) 4/5 hrs.

Today a short day walk of few hours to reach at Kyanjing Gumpa located within beautiful Langtang valley, walk starts with short steep up as tree lines declines for short bushes of rhododendron, juniper and prickly Burberry bushes. Walking slowly to enter a wide glacial valley enclosed with incredible panorama of high snow-capped peaks overlooking Dorji Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, Tsego ri, Langshsisa and Naya Kanga or Ganja la peak. After a nice morning walk reaching at Kyanjing Gumpa for lunch including overnight stops, a great scenic spot of wide green meadows and Yak grazing land offers view charming views of Langtang Lirung glacier and ice fall.

Day 05: One day more in Kyanjing Gumpa (Visit around Kyanjin -Ri ) (4,773m -15, 659 ft) or Tsherko-Ri (4,984 m / 16,351ft).

An important rest day for acclimatization before crossings high Ganja-la pass, at Kyanjing for short hike climb a hill at Tsherko-Ri a steep ascent offers panorama of Chimsedang Lekh, and Kangjal Himal bordering the valley to the south, Naya Kanga 5,844m. stunning views of the great mountains flanking Langtang valley, includes Ganchenpo 6,387m, Dorje Lakpa 6,990 m, Pemthang Karpo Ri 6,830m, Langtang Lirung 7,245m and across northern boundary of Tibet with views of massive Shishapangma 8,046 m world last 14th high mountains.

Day 06: Trek to Ngengang Kharka (4,000m/13,123 ft) 5hrs (Camping)

After a pleasant and scenic time at Kyanjin where our real adventure starts following towards Langtang River and then taking an uphill trail through rhododendron and birch forest, as walk leads with steep climb reaching a flat area at Ngengang Kharka which is the base of Ganja La for first overnight camping.

Day 07: Trek to Keldang (4,270m/14,009ft) via Ganja La pass (5,130m) 6 -7 hrs.(Camping)

An early morning start to cross over high Ganja La pass, could be challenging sometimes in deep snow conditions, taking slowly with steady  climb to reach on top, and then descend with the help of ropes on icy trail to reach a small glacial ponds at Keldang Kharka for overnight stop and camping.

Day 08:  Trek to Dhukpa (4,040m /13,254ft).5 hrs (Camping).

After a challenging climb and downhill from Ganja-la pass, a moderate walk today  where route leads to a ridge line, with few ups and downs reaching a small Sheppard’s settlement at Dukpu a summer grazing pasture of Helambu area for overnight camp.

Day 09: Trek to Tarke-Ghyang (2,600m/ 8,530 ft)4/5hrs

Morning walk leads to Tarke-Ghyang village after being in complete isolation for few days, as route leads downhill and then climb to a small hill ridge at 4,100 m /13,451 ft high, facing views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal range, after a short scenic stop walk continues with descend into dense forest of pine, rhododendron trees to reach at Tarke-Ghyang village for overnight stop with ample time visiting its old Buddhist monasteries of Helambu area.

Day 10: Trek to Sermathang (2,590m/8,497 ft) 4/5 hrs.

Enjoying time at Tarke-Ghyang village among friendly Hyalmo locals, walk leads towards flat area within nice forest enjoying view of beautiful Helambu villages, walk continues past Chorten ‘Buddhist monuments’, following downhill trail to reach at another nice village at Shermathang village for overnight stop.

Day 11: Trek to Melamchi (870m/2,854 ft) -06 hrs.

From Sermathang descend to warmer areas at Melamchi Bazaar, where walk leads towards many farm villages and well tended terraces with views of beautiful green country dotted with farm villages, as walk enters into much warmer areas at Melamchi Bazaar for last overnight stop before Kathmandu.

Day 12: Drive to Kathmandu (1,300m / 4,265ft) -03 hrs.

After a great time on high mountains and hills of Langtang Himal and crossing Ganja-la pass, where walk completes this morning taking an interesting drive to Kathmandu past Dhulikhel town, as drive continues on good road reaching Kathmandu after a fascinating adventure on Ganja-la Pass trekking, in Kathmandu afternoon free for individual activities and shopping.
