The other highlight is an adventure to the base of the world’s 3rd highest and Nepal’s 2nd high Mt. Kanchenjunga. Stands at 8,586 m and 28,169 feet, the first ascent of Mt. Kanchenjunga by British Expeditions on May 25th, 1955. Climbed by the late George Band, J. Brown, Norman Hardie, and S. Streather from the South base camp route.
The name Kanchenjunga originally spelled and pronounced ‘Kanchendzonga’ of Tibetan language origin, means five jewels. Refers to its five main peaks the Gold-Silver-Precious Stones, its Grain, and the Holy Scriptures.
Mt. Kanchenjunga straddles the border between Nepal and Sikkim, a small state of North-East India. But most trekking and climbing are done from the Nepal eastern hills around the district of Taplejung. Which also falls on the ancient Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route of Tibet and Nepal, through Walchung-Gola beyond the north of Kanchenjunga.

Choices of two routes on Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking, as both trail, leads to its North and south base camps. The highest spot of the adventure is Pang-Pema or Kanchenjunga North Base Camp at 5,190 m / 17,028 feet. Amidst remorseless fields of ice and glaciers close to the bottom of the massive North Face of Mt. Kanchenjunga.
But most standard itinerary on the Kanchenjunga circuit visit first to the south base camp at 4,780 m / 15,682 feet. Which is the original base camp for the climb to Mt. Kanchenjunga, close to Ramche and Lapsang near Yarlung glacier.
After visiting the South Base Camp, walk leads over three scenic passes of Tsele-La, Tamo-La, and Mirgin-La above 4,430 m. All three passes crossing in a day rewards with tremendous views of Kabru, Jannu Himal, and Kanchenjunga massif.
Includes views of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse Himal towards the north-west, to reach on the main trail of North base camp route. An interesting walk staying in the lovely village of Ghunsa, populated by mountain tribes the Sherpa and Bhotia of Buddhism religion.
The other wonderful highlight is its beautiful forest
The walk on both sides of Kanchenjunga base camps leads through beautiful enchanting woodland covered with tall trees. During springtime is the flowering season of wildflowers, the hills and valleys are alive and bright. The main flower that covers the forest is rhododendron of various species from tall trees to a bush, with magnolia. Includes various different wild-flowers violets, primula, Iris, and varieties of exotic orchids, which makes the walk more interesting and exciting.
