Everest Base Camp trek by Overland – 15 Days

EBC trek by Overland Trekking of 15 days, one of the longest route but worth the views and culture, as this adventure allows you to visit both sides of Everest within Solu and Khumbu districts. Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trekking of 15 days will certainly delight you exploring and visiting nice villages of mixed people of Nepal Far Mid-East Himalaya partly dominated by Sherpa and Kirat Rai people of great interesting culture with traditional farm life.

Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trekking starts taking a jeep drive to reach eastern areas beyond Kathmandu and Jiri classic route where our exciting overland ride brings you at Phaplu village the home of Solu Sherpa. After Phaplu walk begins on gradual up to reach at Sherpa village at Takshindu with facing glorious views of Khumbu Himal with Dudh-Kunda and Number peaks, the trek continues with long descend to reach Dudh-Kosi river where climb leads you past Rai and Sherpa villages of Jubing and Khari-Khola to reach Khumbu region.

On reaching Khumbu areas where the trail from Lukla and Phaplu joins on the road to Namche and beyond towards Everest Base Camp. The walk continues following Dudh-Kosi River for sometimes within nice Sherpa farm villages and into Sagarmatha National Park, where climb takes you at famous Namche Bazaar the gateway to Everest base camp and other various adventure destinations. Enjoying spare and rest days at Namche walk leads to scenic Tengboche and its impressive colorful monastery surrounded by an array of peaks with views of Everest and mighty Ama Dablam.

From here on tree line drops for the sheer wilderness of arid and dry mountainscapes, as walk reaches the higher ground to reach our main goal and highlight at famed Everest base camp and enjoy exciting moments close to massive Khumbu Ice-Falls and glaciers. After visiting Everest Base Camp where the next adventure takes you to the highest point of trek on top Kalapathar located above 5,545 m high offers spectacular views of surrounding peaks with Everest at a mere distance. Slowly our journey comes to an end with a long downhill walk to Namche Bazaar and finally completing our fabulous scenic adventure at Lukla where short panoramic flight brings you back at Kathmandu, after a grand glorious experience and adventure on Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trekking of 15 days

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu to Salleri by sharing jeep (2,413 meters/ 9980 feet) – 12/13 hours.
Day 02: Trek to Taksindu Dada (2,931 meters /9616 feet) ThuliKharka (4300 meter/14,107 feet) – 5/6 hours.
Day 03: Trek to Khari Khola (2,370 meters/ 7775 meters)-6/7 hours.
Day 04: Trek to Phakdingthen Trek to Phakding (2,612 meter/8570 feet) – 3/4 hours.
Day 05: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meter/11,287 feet) via SagarmathaNatinal park check post- 6/7 hours.
Day 06: Acclimatization (rest) day in Namche Bazar.
Day 07: Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3860 meters/12665 feet)-5/6 hours.
Day 08: Trek to Dingboche (4410 meters/14,468 feet)-4/5 hours.
Day 09: Acclimatization (rest) day in Dingboche.
Day 10: Trek to Lobuche (4,940 meters/16208 feet)-3/4 hours.
Day 11: Trek to GorakShop (5,164 meters/ 16942 feet) +after lunch without back pack hike Everest Base Camp (5,364 meter/17598 feet) go & back -4/5 hours.
Day 12: Early morning hike to Kala Patthar (5550 meters/18,192 feet)-4/5 hours then trek down to Pheriche (4,137 meters/14,340 feet)-3/4 hours.
Day 13: Trek down to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meter/11,287 feet)-6/ 7 hours.
Day 14: Trek Down to Lukla (2,860meter/ 9,383 feet)-6/7 hours.
Day 15: Lukla (Tenzing Hillary Airport) to Kathmandu (Tribhuvan Int´l Airport) fly back.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu to Salleri by Sharing jeep 2,413 m/ 9,980 ft of 10/11 hrs drives.

Beginning early morning taking a  jeep overland to reach Nepal Far Mid-East at Salleri, where an exciting drive leads past many farm villages and town with ups and downhill to reach at Phalpu within Solu-Khumbu district an area south of Everest and Khumbu region for an overnight stop, after a long exciting and interesting drives.

Day 02: Trek to Taksindu Danda 2,931 ms /9,616 ft - 05/06 hrs. 

First day trek begins with morning walk heading to a slow winding uphill path to reach at Ringmo village, as walk leads past many scattered farmlands and villages includes forested areas and with first views of Mt. Everest with Khumbu Himal, from here on near level path with short climb up to Ringmo village, after a short stop at Ringmo, climb up into lovely forested area to reach on top Takshindo pass with great views of peaks within Khumbu region, from here downhill to Takshindo village and its monastery for overnight stop within Sherpa area.

Day 03: Trek to Khari Khola 2,370 m/ 7,775 m - 06/7 hrs.

After an overnight stop with a pleasant stay in Takshindo village morning walk leads to descend towards a large village of Nunthala, a village of mixed people with Sherpa-Kirat, Rai some Magar-Tamang with Hindu Chettries and Dalits which make this village more interesting with lots shops-teahouses, lodges and many shops and stores.

From here continue journey with long descend past farm areas and into forest to reach at the bottom of the hills near raging Dudh-Kosi River, after crossing a bridge with gentle winding uphill to Jubing village of Rai farmers and then with more climb for few hours to reach a fairly large village of Khari-Khola for overnight stop, within-group of different tribes of hills mostly Sherpa and Magar with Rai.

Day 04: Trek to Surkhe 2,295 m - 06 hrs.

From Khari-Khola after crossing a bridge then on steep climb for few hour to Bupsa Danda, and continue walk as air gets much cooler heading close to high Khumbu areas within lovely woodland to Pyuin village (Paya) located in the middle of a forest, as walk progress on gentle path with views of Lukla towards North, then walk downhill to Surkhe village for overnight stop the village located at the bottom of Lukla town and its runway.

Day 05: Trek to Phakding 2,612 m / 8,570 ft - 05 / 06 hrs.

From Surkhe a gradual walks to begin with ups and then on winding trail past nice farm villages of Sherpa enriched with Buddhism religion and culture as you encounter rows of Mani (prayer) monuments and large spinning bells, slowly our pleasant first day walks completes reaching at Phakding a moderate size village with many good lodges for overnight stop by the bank of glacial Dudh Kosi River.  

Day 06: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m/11,287 ft via Sagarmatha National Park check post- 6/7 hrs.

After the Phakding walk takes you at the famous Namche Bazaar as altitude gains slowly with the exciting walk following Dudh-Kosi river and crossing several times to reach Monjo village near Sagarmatha National Park entrance, from here walking on river valley and gorge covered within nice woodland of tall rhododendron-pines and fir trees.

After crossing a high last bridge with few hours climb to Namche Bazaar with stunning views of Everest-Lhotse and Kongde peaks. Namche Bazaar at 4,440 m high an ideal place for a rest day to acclimatize, the main town/village of Khumbu where colorful and exciting Saturday market takes place once a week.

Day 07: Acclimatization (rest) day in Namche Bazaar.

Rest day for acclimatization before heading higher area, morning with options for hike to Everest View Hotel or walk on top Namche, for super landscapes views with Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam with series of high peaks, here enjoy visiting National Park Museum provides you with much information of Khumbu region, Sherpa history-culture-flora and fauna including detail on mountaineering.

Day 08: Trek to Tengboche Monastery 3,860 m/12,665 ft - 5/6 hrs.

After a pleasant time at Namche, morning walk leads to scenic and good walks with views of Everest and other giant peaks, as trek leads downhill to Imjatse river at Phunki Tenga, a small place with few lodges an ideal spot for a refreshing break or lunch stop. Afternoon walk leads uphill into the enchanting alpine forest to reach a beautiful surrounding at  Thyangboche Monastery offering a grand panorama of mountains with Everest and Amadablam at close distance, here with time for a tour into the monastery of great interest.

Day 09: Trek to Dingboche 4,410 m/14,468 ft - 04/5 hrs.

Morning walk leads on easy downhill past small place of Deboche and then leaving the green vegetation and tree lines reaching a steel bridge over Imjatse River, where walk leads on an open wide country with magnificent views of Amadablam. A slow uphill reaches you at Pangboche as walk leads into dry and arid terrain and crossing a small bridge with short steep ups to reach a beautiful Imjatse valley where Dingboche located. Dingboche offers views of Island peak with Nuptse, Lhotse and Taboche peaks with North Face of Amadablam.

Day 10: Trek to Lobuche 4,940 m/16,208 ft- 04/5 hrs.

Morning on leaving Dingboche with the steep climb up to a ridge lined with prayer flags and Buddhist monuments Stupas, facing grand views of peaks as walk leads at Thugla.  A small place with about 2-3 tea-house serving as lunch stops located at the end of massive Khumbu glaciers melts into a raging river, from here a steep climb for an hour to reach on Thugla ridge top. Here witness some memorials of unfortunate climbers around mountains of high Khumbu and Everest, after refreshing break walk with a slow climb to reach Lobuche for an overnight stop.

Day 11: Trek to Gorak-Shep 5,164 m/ 16,942 ft after lunch hike Everest Base Camp 5,364 m/17,598 ft back - 05/6 hrs.

After Lobuche, head towards Everest Base Camp, where walk leads to short climb to reach higher areas and then back on nice trails with short descend to reach at Gorakshep, after a shortstop and rest heading towards our goal walking into moraine and rocks to reach Everest base camp in the backdrop of mighty Khumbu Ice Falls and glaciers. Everest has hidden between peaks of Lho-la and Nuptse where a tip of Everest can be seen from the base camp, with ever-present views of towering peaks after an exciting moment of the adventure heading back to Gorakshep for last overnight on the highest point of the journey.

Day 12: Early morning hike to Kala Patthar 5,545 m/18,192 ft then trek to Pheriche 4,137 m/14,340 ft- 03/4 hrs.

Gorakshep located beneath Kalapathar and lofty peak of Pumori, morning a steep climb heading into rocky path with vigorous breathtaking uphill to reach on top the highest spot of the adventure at Kalapathar, situated above 5,545 m facing sweeping panorama of high giant mountains with view of Pumori and Everest at close distance, after a glorious moment descend to Gorakshep and walk on the same trail back to Lobuche to reach Thugla, where path from Dingboche and Pheriche meets as our route leads downhill to a flat windy valley of Pheriche. Walking for an hour on the scenic valley to reach at Pheriche a settlement with the number of good lodges to stay with views of Amadablam-Taboche-Cholatse with other series of peaks, at Pheriche for an overnight stop, where HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association Post situated).

Day 13: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m/11,287 ft- 06/ 7 hrs.

From Pheriche walk to the end of a valley with short descend to a river and then climb to a ridge and then descend past Somare and Pangboche village. After Pangboche with uphill to Thyangboche and then down to Imjatse River with a steep climb for some time as the walk continues to Namche with views of Everest-Lhotse-Nuptse-Amadablam. Finally, walk ends for overnight at Namche Bazaar after a scenic walks of the day from Pheriche.

Day 14: Trek to Lukla 2,860 m/ 9,383 ft- 06/7 hrs.

Morning with mountain views, our last walk leads downhill from Namche Bazaar to Dudh Kosi River. After Jorsalle a short steep climb to Sagarmatha National Park, then reaching a nice village at Monjo, as walk follows Dudh Kosi River all the way to Phakding village and then heading towards Ghat and Tade-Kosi small areas with the last climb to reach the main gate of Lukla. After a final climb of the journey rest of the walk is easy going through Lukla town and its markets place to our overnight stop in a nice lodge at Lukla.

Day 15: Lukla (Tenzing-Hillary Airport) to Kathmandu fly back.

As per normal flight schedule for Kathmandu, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary Airport terminal and then board in respective airlines for a sweeping flight back to Kathmandu, facing views of mountains as air journey ends at Kathmandu airport, after checking out and then get transfer to your respective hotels with time in the afternoon for individual activities.
