Introduction:

Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trekking an adventurous journey with White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition, leading you to awesome scenery of mountains and unique landscapes in the midst of old Bonpo (pre-Buddhism) and Tibetan Buddhism cultures.

This is trekking is more of expeditions and exploration with adventure in pure wilderness where few trekkers seldom visits on this remote wild country of Upper Dolpo to Jomsom.

Starting this amazing Upper Dolpo Trekking with a flight to Nepal’s Far South West Nepal at Nepalgunj city on warmer areas, the continue with another short flight to Jhupal at Dolpo with super views of mountains during both flights.

Upper Dolpo Trek first destination leads to beautiful turquoise color Phuksumdo Lake after an interesting walk through Dunai a large village / town and headquarter of Dolpo district, from here heading to Ankhe and Sulighat village to reach at Phuksumdo Lake near Ringmo village.

With enjoyable and interesting rest day for acclimatization at Ringmo village near Phuksumdo Lake, journey continues leading over the highest pass of this adventure at Kang-la 5,360 meters with incredible views of mountains, valley and surrounding landscape.

Walk finally reaching at Shey Gompa “The Crystal Monastery” with free day to marvel this beautiful surrounding and to explore Bonpo monastery at the base of unique Crystal Mountain.

From here heading to Jomsom around Mustang area as the route visiting leads through interesting villages of Saldang, Tokyu, Dho Tarap, Chagaon and to Tiri gaon at the end of Dolpo area, before reaching at Jomsom and Kagbeni at Mustang district for sweeping flight to picturesque Pokhara by the beautiful Phewa Lake in the shade of Annapurna Mountains.

Day 01:           Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport where our White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition staff will receive for a short transfer to respective hotels around Thamel area,
tourist hub of Kathmandu.

After getting refresh from the flight our guide brief you with information of hotel, Kathmandu and Upper Dolpo Trekking.

Day 02:           Morning sightseeing tour afternoon fly to Nepalgunj.
Morning our city guide will take you for half day tour around Kathmandu at places of interest. Kathmandu Valley steeped with history and culture listed as World Heritage Sites the holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old Royal Palaces and courtyard; after sightseeing tour return to hotel, afternoon flight to Nepal Far South West at Nepalgunj.

Nepalgunj located near India border, during flight view of Himalayan Mountains reaching Nepalgunj airport, transfer to respective hotels for overnight stop.

Day 03:           Fly to Jhupal 2,320 m then trek to Dunai 2,850m – 03 hrs.
Early breakfast for another short flight to Jhupal in Dolpo, at Jhupal join with our trekking staff and trek to Dunai for overnight stop, walk leads through interesting farm villages and farm lands with views of snow capped peaks in the distance in Jhupal in the comfort of nice lodge.

Day 04:           Trek to Ankhe 2,896m – 06 hrs.
After overnight in Dunai, morning walk through market and crossing bridge over Thulo Bheri River and then climb over a ridge to Phuksumdo River valley with views of Kagmara peak, from here trek leads downhill passing spread out houses with walnut trees close to a stream at Dhera a small cattle herders settlements. From here a short climb to Rahagaon village of Thakuri Hindu people, then downhill into thick forest to reach overnight camp at Ankhe, a small village and entrance gate of Shey Phuksumdo National Park.

Day 05:           Trek to Sumdu / Sulighat village 3,500m -06 hrs.
From Ankhe morning walk with short climb and descend through forest reaching a river bank, from here climb on leaving the forest, from the top walk downhill to forested area leading upstream to cross a small bridge at Ryajik village, trek further to Sumdu near Sulighat village for overnight stop.

Day 06:           Trek to Phuksumdo Lake 3,500 m – 05 hours.
Morning walk leads to our first destination at Phuksumdo Lake after Pungmo Kholas valley and crossing streams, following Pungmo Khola downhill into pine and birch trees to reach at upper side of Phokshindo Khola, after a short break continue walk to Ringmo village, an interesting, attractive Tibetan like village with mud plastered chortens and Mani (prayer) walls.

From here a short walk to Phokshindo Lake for overnight camp by the shore of beautiful turquoise Phuksumdo Lake.

Day 07:           Rest day at Phokshumdo Lake for local excursion.
A perfect place for free and rest day, just relax and marvel the beautiful views of surrounding landscapes and peaks of Kagmara, or visit this interesting Ringmo village and walk to the lake side.

Day 08:           Trek to Phokshumdo-Khola 3,640 m- 05 hrs.
From this lovely place morning walk starts to higher area of upper Dolpo region to our another highlight and final destination of this awesome journey walk follows to contour around rocky ledge over the river bank on the unsteady path, then approaching at the western side the lake through a summer pasture which opens into a wide plain of Phuksumdo Khola for the overnight camp by the river shore.

Day 09:           Trek to Phuksumdo Bhanjyang – 07 hrs.
After a nice walk of previous day, today’s morning trek begins on a good path leading northern area of Phuksumdo Khola and then walking up on the hill slopes, after a steep uphill to reach at a ridge top with impressive scenery of wide green valley and looking over Kang-La pass that leads to Shey Gompa, setting the camp for the night stop on this nice green summer pasture.

Day 10:           Trek to Shey Gompa 4,500m via Kang-La 5,360 m -06 hrs.
Morning walk starts to our main destination at Shey Gompa which the high lights of this adventure after Phuksumdo Lake, trek continues with a climb on stone and rocky path to cross Kang-la pass at 5,360 meters, highest point of this adventure.

The top offers super views of landscapes with snow clad peaks including Mt. Dhaulagiri.

After reaching the top ridge, descend to the bottom of the hill leading by the river then across cattle herder camps, after a short stop continue towards Buddhist prayer monument Chortens and Mani.

After a great walk reaching at Shey Gompa located beneath Crystal Mountain regarded as a Holy Mountain with an old monastery nearby.

Day 11:           Rest day at Shey Gompa the crystal monastery.
A perfect place for rest day in this high mountain area, in the harmony of nature and chanting of monks, visit Shey Monastery also known Crystal Monastery, this area is well described in the novel Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen.

Day 12:           Trek to Namduna Gaon 4,800m via Saldang La 5,200m.
From this wonderful place, our journey continuous into a wall canyon, trail meanders atop Saldang-la, offering great views of landscapes and of Mt. Dhaulagiri peaks, downhill on the grazing area with pleasant walk to Namduna Gaon for overnight stop.

Day 13:           Trek to Saldang 3,620 m -05 hours.
After a stop in this village walk on dusty windswept terrain, leading to steep uphill to reach our overnight camp at Saldang, another impressive large village of the region, situated higher side of the plateau.

Day 14:           Trek to Chagaon 3,960 m – 05 hrs visit Rapa Gompa.
From here, morning walk following river Nang chu all the way with short ups and down and then passing few cattle herders settlement, and then heading to our overnight camp at Chagaon a small village with an old Rapa Gomba of pre Buddhist Bon-Pa culture.

Day 15:           Trek to Rakyo 4,160 m via Darshamna Dovan – 06 hrs.
Morning walking on main route, then taking South West direction to Rakyo beyond, after crossing the same trail following river through farm fields, and then walk into Darshama Dovan another village of farmers and cattle herders, from here walk leads to pasture land at Rakyo for overnight camp.

Day 16:           Trek to camp at 4,542m after Jyanta Bhanjyang 5,231 m – 06 hrs.
Today walk leads away from human settlement and villages to camp in complete wilderness, heading higher but due south with incredible views of Dolpo vast windswept landscapes around isolated area. Walk leads over Jyanta Bhanjyang or a pass at 5,231 m one of the highest pass of this adventure after Kang-la and then heading downhill to camp around pasture field at about 4,542 meters high.

Day 17:           Trek to Murjung 4,965 m – 06 hrs.
After nice stop in this summer pasture area walk follows a small stream for short while, and then encountering yaks and mules laden caravan on route Tibet, trade with Tibet exists since hundreds of years, and this walking route lies on the old Trans Himalayan Caravan Route.
Finally this fine walk ends at Murjung a small interesting village for overnight.

Day 18:           Trek to Tokyu Gaon 4,200m via Jeng la 5,090m-06 hrs.
From Murjung, morning starts with steep climb to reach a ridge with tremendous views of massive Mt. Dhaulagiri range, from here a long descend to Tarap valley, one of the largest and longest valley of Dolpo area which is about 20 k.m. which stretches following Tarap Chu River, after an easy walk for hours reaching at Tokyogaon for overnight, this is one of the most impressive and interesting village of Dolpo area, consist of more than ten villages and nice tended farm fields with an old monasteries.

Day 19:           Trek to Dho Tarap 4,040m- 05 hrs.
After Tokyugaon, morning starts with downhill walk towards Tarap Chu on broader green valley, this is one of the scenic wide valleys with lots of Sheppard’s settlements of Yaks and Sheep, and walk continues to our overnight camp at Dho Tarap, this is another interesting village with mix tribes of Tibetans origin and Magar hill tribe people.

Day 19:           Trek to Jhyarkot Bhanjyang 4,230 m – 06 hrs.
Morning with nice pleasant walk on a valley with few vegetation of bushes of juniper and wild rose, around this area might spot some wild life Blue Sheep and other mountain animals, as the walk progress reaching at Jhyarkot Bhanjyang for overnight camp by the river after a long day walk of about 6 hours.

Day 20:           Trek to Mola after Chharka pass 5,027 m – 06 hrs.
Morning walk leads to last and remote area before reaching villages, following a stream, involves some adventure climbing over Chharka pass at 5,027 m with grand vista of Dhaulagiri mountain range. After the climb descend to Mola to camp near temporary cattle herder’s shelters.

Day 21:           Trek to Chharka Bhanjyang 4,110 m – 06 hrs visit Sarchhan Gompa.
Start the morning walk to lower Dolpo area passing smaller settlement of yak herders, following river all the way at Chharka Bhanjyang, an interesting village close towards Mustang area with well maintained neat terraced farm fields, after reaching the campsite visit Sarchhan Gompa.

Day 22:           Trek to Naljyang Sumoa 4,340 m – 05 hrs.
After a great time in pure wilderness, last walk leads to Naljyang Sumoa a small settlement before a high Niwar pass of 5,120 m, walk leads on gradual winding path on dusty windswept terrain to reach our camp in Naljyang Sumoa at 4,340 m high.

Day 24:           Trek and cross Niwar pass 5,120 m after Molum Sumna – 07 hrs.
Today one of the longest day of trekking as the walk leads to cross a high Niwar pass at 5,120 m with spectacular panorama of mountains and landscapes of arid windswept terrain, before the pass walking though Molum Sumna village, after an adventure over the pass downhill to camp on a pasture land of Yaks.

Day 25:           Trek to Sangde Phedi 4,190 m – 06 hrs.
Slowly walk leads to Mustang area on losing altitude as the trail leads Sangde Phedi after crossing a small scenic ridge with views of mountains and then on gradual winding path to reach the bottom of Sangde ridge at Phedi for overnight stop.

Day 26:           Trek to Sangyl 3,710m – 05 hrs.
An interesting day as the walk leads lower altitude at the end of Dolpo area to Sangyal and Tiri Gaon and the lake Tiri Tal, walking downhill with more views of snowcapped peaks of Mustang Himal including Nilgiri peaks and finally reaching at Sangyl for overnight stop in a small farmers settlement.

Day 27:           Trek to Tiri Tal 3,180 m – 05 hrs.
Today our last day around Dolpo as the walk leads closer to Mustang area following the old caravan route of Mustang / Dolpo and to Tibet.

As our walk continues with a climb over a ridge and a small pass offering grand vista of mountains and as far to Mustang villages of Kagbeni and Tirigaon, from the top downhill reaching a small glacial pond called Tiri Tal for last overnight stop around Dolpo area.

Day 28:           Trek to Jomsom 2,715 via Tirigaon and Kagbeni – 07 hrs.
Morning walk heading to the last village of Dolpo area at Tirigaon, and then downhill to cross Kaligandaki River over a suspension bridge reaching at Ekle Bhatti or directly to Kagbeni village.

Whatever the choice is, on reaching Mustang area walk is pleasant on river bed with flat trail to follow all the way to Jomsom town in the comfort of excellent lodge with delicious food menu.

Jomsom headquarter town of whole Mustang district located on Kaligandaki valley connecting popular Annapurna circuit trekking trail and to holy Muktinath temple.

Jomsom with a small airport afternoon explore the market this area famous for delicious apples.

Day 29:           Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel by the lake Phewa.
Morning transfer to Jomsom airport for short scenic flight to picturesque and beautiful Pokhara city, during 22 mins on air awesome views of mountains on reaching Pokhara airport transfer to hotel by the serene lake Phewa, ample time for walk around lakeside or just relax and enjoy the views of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 30:           Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
After a pleasant stop in Pokhara, morning drive to Kathmandu on an interesting highway passing many farm lands, villages and towns till the ride ends at Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels after a fascinating time up around wild west of Nepal trekking.

Day 31:           Free day in Kathmandu for individual activities.
A free day in Kathmandu for own individual activities or shopping souvenirs on this day can book for another sightseeing tour in and around Kathmandu valley of Bhaktapur / Patan.

Day 32:           International departure for home ward bound.
After a memorable and great adventure in Nepal and Upper Dolpo to Jomsom including excellent services of White Hills Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition guides, our staff transfers you for final departure homeward bound flights.
