Introduction:

Tamang Heritage Trail, a remarkable trekking exploring ancient Bon culture with Tibetan Buddhism religion and living as it was for thousands of years. White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition proudly presents this classic Tamang Heritage Trail leading mid hills of Central Himalayan North of Kathmandu with views of Ganesh-Langtang and Jugal Himal mountain range.

Starting Tamang Heritage Trail trekking from Kathmandu with scenic and interesting drive towards Langtang at Rasuwa district around Langtang National Park, area extends from 32 km north of Kathmandu to Nepal – China (Tibet) border.

Tamang Heritage Trail trek offers wide spectrum of vegetation type from subtropical forest (below 1000 m), temperate oak and pine forests at mid-elevation, with alpine scrub and grasses giving way to bare rocks and snow, oaks, chir pine, maple, fir, blue pine, hemlock, spruce and various species of rhododendron make up the main forest species.

Culturally the area is mixed mostly habited by Tamang ethnic groups with rich Buddhist culture which have influenced the natural environment over the centuries. Exploring traditional Tamang villages at Gatlang 2,200 m and at Tatopani (hot-spring), Thuman and to Briddim villages, our walk leads to Lama Hotel on mainstream trekking trail of Langtang.

From here to conclude this fine journey walking up to Thulo Syabru and then to Shing Gomba at 3,330 m highest spot of this trek, and then downhill to Dhunche 1,950 m to complete this marvelous and classic Tamang Heritage Trail trekking with drive back to Kathmandu.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel
Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour at places of interest.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m – 07 hrs journey.
Day 04: Trek to Gatlang 2,200 m – 05 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Tatopani 2,607 m – 06 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Thuman 2,400 m via Nagthali – 06 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Briddim 2,345 m – 06 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel 2, 350m – 05 hrs.
Day 09: Trek to Upper Syabru village 2,118m – 05 hours.
Day 10: Trek to Singh Gompa 3,254m or Chandanbari – 05 hours.
Day 11: Trek to Dhunche 1,950 m – 05 hrs.
Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu – 05 hrs journey.
Day 13: International departure homeward bound.

Day 01:          Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On reaching at Kathmandu international airport where White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition staff will receive and then transfer you to respective hotels around Kathmandu city. After getting refreshed from the flight our guide briefs you with information of hotel, Kathmandu and Tamang Heritage Trail trekking.

Day 02:          Sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Morning our city guide will take you for sightseeing tour at places of interest as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites, temples, monasteries, old king’s palaces after an interesting tour back to hotel, preparation for Tamang Heritage Trail trekking.

Day 03:           Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m – 07 hours.

Starting this wonderful trekking with scenic overland drive to Syabrubesi to commence our walk to Langtang valley, drive leads north passing through towns and farm villages of Kakani, Trisuli and Ramche. As the drive leads towards cooler area beyond hills on leaving the low warm areas of rice terraces, as the air gets cooler reaching higher altitude at Langtang National Park in Dhunche town located 1,965m high, a major town of Langtang and Rasuwa district. After a brief stop journey continues further downhill on the winding road to reach first overnight stop at Syabrubesi village.

Day 04:           Trek to Gatlang 2,200 m – 05 hrs.

First day walk leads North West, where motor road is close we will avoid the main road as much as possible, taking an old trekking trail to Gatlang, walk leads past several farm villages of Tamang area. Walk leads with slow climb to large Tamang village at Gatlang for overnight stop, on arrival warm welcome greeted with Khada (religious silk scarf) and transfer you to local homes for overnight stay, with time to visit around the villages and interact with the locals. 

Day 05:           Trek to Tatopani 2,607 m – 06 hrs.

Morning starts with views of peaks towards north and of Tibet Mountains, starting the day walk with a gradual uphill most of the way through several small farm villages and hamlets and patch of woodlands to reach at Tatopani for overnight stop. Afternoon visit hot springs as Tatopani means hot water rising from the fresh spring, and visit the local villages and its friendly people.

Day 06:           Trek to Thuman 2,400 m via Nagthali – 06 hrs.

Morning walk heads near on the route to Tibet border at Nagthali and Thuman towards north walking on gradual path with uphill most of the day and then short downhill with views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. Walk leads through Nagthali and then finally to overnight stop at Thuman village, with time in afternoon to interact and observe local villagers.

Day 07:           Trek to Briddim 2,345 m – 06 hrs.

After time in this nice Tamang village and views of distant peaks of Ganesh and Langtang Himal, morning starts with a gradual walk on the winding path and then with a climb to a ridge overlooking more views of mountains and surrounding landscapes and entering the rhododendron, pines and oaks forest, and then with a climb with short descend to another nice village at Briddim for overnight stop. 

Day 08:           Trek to Lama Hotel 2,470 m – 06 hours.

After a fascinating time in Briddim village, return trekking via Lama Hotel on the path to Langtang valley, however our route diverts from the main trekking trail, walking through enchanting woodlands with occasional views of snow capped mountains and with a short downhill with few short ups and gradual portion, the walk leads to forested area till Lama Hotel is reached for overnight stop.

Day 09:           Trek to Thulo / Upper Syabru 2,211m – 05 hrs.

From Lama Hotel, morning walk follows with views on downhill to Bamboo a small settlement with few teahouses serving as lodge. After a short break walk past farm terraces of millets, corns and wheat’s (depending upon the time of season), on leaving farm area walk leads uphill on winding trail to Upper or Thulo Syabru for overnight stop.

Thulo Syabru an interesting village, where houses are linked together with an old monastery above the village.

Day 10:           Trek to Shing Gompa 3,330m – 05 hours.

After Thulo Syabru, morning walk on high path into forest of rhododendron, pines, and hemlocks trees with views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Mountains with Langtang Lirung, after hours of climb reaching a level area. From here on gentle path to Shing Gompa also called Chandanbari for overnight stop. This small place houses few nice lodges and a small cheese factory with old monastery.

Day 11:           Trek to Dhunche 1,950 m – 05 hrs.

From Shing Gompa, our last day walk of this trip leads downhill into pine and rhododendron tree lines, around this area rare Red Panda are often seen, after a nice walk cross the bridge and then a short climb on the main road to reach at Dhunche town for last overnight stop in this lovely Langtang area.

Day 12:           Drive back to Kathmandu -06 hrs.

Morning drive leads downhill passing farm villages of Tamang people around Ramche and Kalikathan and on good road reaching at Kathmandu with afternoon free for individual activities and shopping.

Day 13:           International departure for home ward bound.

After a memorable time and great walk on Tamang Heritage Trail trekking with great services of White Hills Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition guides, as per the flight time our staff transfers you for the final departure homeward bound.
