White Hill Adventure Treks operates Overland Lhasa to Kathmandu & Everest Base Camp every week from April to November months for your delight and interest.

Starting this wonderful adventure with an overwhelming flight to Lhasa, on air from the beginning to an end with views of mountain range includes world highest Mt. Everest-Cho-Oyu and Mt. Shisapangma with range of peaks.

On reaching at Gongar airport received by our native Tibetan guide and drive for short and smooth drive to Lhasa,
at present Lhasa a mixture of modernization and medieval city, our hotel located around old part of Lhasa near Barkhor Market Square, where you can witness daily Tibetan life and religious practices.

In Lhasa busy with interesting tour of Drefung-Shera and Jhorkang monasteries with incredible towering high Potala Palace which dominates Lhasa and Kychi valley.

From Lhasa a scenic overland drive with amazing views of Tibetan landscapes-villages and towns with Yaks grazing on wide fields, drive leads past Khamba-la offers marvelous scenery and then heading towards Gyantse and Shigatse driving past beautiful Yamdrok Tsho Lake and finally reaching at Tibets’ 2nd biggest city in Shigatse.

Here tour of majestic Tashilumpo monastery and local colorful market, our drive leads on Lhasa-Kathmandu highway and over highest pass of the adventure at Gyatso-la 5,220 m, from here heading towards world highest base camp of Everest known as Chomolungma in Tibetan.

After a wonderful moment our journey concludes with a smooth drive back to Kathmandu with fantastic and memory on Overland Lhasa to Kathmandu & Everest Base Camp tour with White Hill Adventure Treks.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01:                  Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:                  In Kathmandu with half day tour and preparation for Lhasa tour.
Day 03:                  Fly to Lhasa 3,650 m and transfer to hotel near Barkhor market square.
Day 04 – 05:          In Lhasa sightseeing tour of famous monasteries and palace.
Day 06:                  Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m over Karo-la and Yamdrok Tsho lake
Day 07:                 Drive to Shigatse 3,900 m – 03 hrs and visit Tashilumpo monastery.
Day 08:                 Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m – 05 hrs.
Day 09:                  Drive to Rongbuk Monastery 4,950 m and visit Everest Base Camp – 05 hrs.
Day 10:                  Drive to Zangmu 1,940 m – 06 hrs.
Day 11:                  Drive to Kathmandu via Kodari – 06 hrs.
Day 12:                  Depart Kathmandu for international flights.

Day 01:                                  Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport where White Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition staff will receive and then transfer you to respective hotels around Kathmandu city. After getting refreshed from the flight our guide briefs you with information of hotel, Kathmandu and Overland Lhasa to Kathmandu & Everest Base Camp with welcome dinner in a nice Nepali restaurant.

Day 02:                                  Sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
Morning our city guide will take you for sightseeing tour at places of interest as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites, temples, monasteries, old king’s palaces after an interesting tour back to hotel, preparation for Overland Lhasa to Kathmandu & Everest Base Camp.

Day 03:                  Fly to Lhasa and transfer to hotel near Barkhor market square.
Morning transfer to Kathmandu international airport for exciting and panoramic flight to Lhasa, on air from the start to an end views of world’s highest mountains with Mount Everest at close distance, as the flight reach at Gongar airport, here our Tibetan and guide will receive you then an hour drive to Lhasa city, on reaching check into hotels around old part of Lhasa near Barkhor market square.

Day 04-05:            In Lhasa with tour of Lhasa interesting places and Potala Palace.
Two days in Lhasa engrossed with interesting tour of Drefung Monastery one of the largest in Tibet, as well important old monastery of Tibet actually a collage and a university for Tibetan Buddhism in earlier days.

After Drefung, tour of Jorkhang Temple which is another important and interesting site to visit as it boasts historic importance and tales of old days. The tour concludes for the day visiting Bharkor Bazaar.

Next morning guide will take you on tour to famous and magnificent Potala Palace, originally built during 640 AD. Potala Palace the landmark of Lhasa and Tibet dominates the Kyuchi or Lhasa valley.

The 13 storied palaces with 1,000 room stands at 117.19m high include 1000 rooms. Afternoon tour of another interesting and important Shera monastery and watch young monks in debates one of the high light of the visit.

 

Day 06:                  Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m over Karo-la and Yamdrok Tsho lake
From Lhasa drive to Gyantse city, crossing over Khamba-la 4,800m with great views of Tibetan landscapes, then towards Yamdrok Tshso “The Torquoise Lake” and drive over Karo-La at 5,050m with views of Nazong-Khangtsa peak, after a great drive of five hours reaching at Gyantse for overnight stop, afternoon tour of Phalkor Monastery, Kumbum Stupa and the local market.

Day 07:                 Drive to Shigatse 3,900 m – 03 hrs and visit Tashilumpo monastery.
From Gyantse a short drive of few hour to Tibet’s 2nd biggest city after Lhasa, and in Shigatse tour of Tashilumpo monastery. Traditional seat of Panchen Lama (2nd high order after Dalai Lama) this monastery contains a 27m high gold plated Buddha known as Mytaria (the future Buddha).  The hotel in Shigtase is quite large and comfortable, afternoon visit the local interesting market.

Day 08:                 Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m – 05 hrs.
After wonderful stop in Shigtse, our morning drive leads outside of the city area heading South towards New Tingri or Shegar, driving on Kathmandu / Lhasa highway the road has been well maintained last few years the ride leads to Larze town, located on the road to Mt. Kailash from Larze drive climbs on zig-zag road reaching highest pass at Gyatsho-la of 5,220m high and then downhill to Shegar / New Tingro for overnight stop.

Day 09:                  Drive to Rongbuk Monastery 4,950 m and visit Everest Base Camp – 05 hrs.
From this windy and isolated town, our route leads away from main highway towards North Everest base camp and Rongbuk area, as the drive leads on top Pang-la pass with super panorama of world highest peaks including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and adjoining peaks, from here descend to Tashi Dzong village to reach Rongbuk Monastery and its many smaller hermitage caves.

This holy and remote spot was first introduced to the world in 1920’s by 1st British expedition teams of George and Irving Mallory and well-known novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton.

At present most of the retreat cells are abandoned with only few small shrines scattered at end of the valley. According to Rimpoche (high priest and saint) of this area, the monastery was first established as a religious site around 250 to 350 years ago. From Rongbuk a short drive of 20-30 minutes to Everest North Base Camp.

(Note: Vehicle are not allowed to enter from Rongbuk towards Everest BC only on special case and authorized permits for vehicle to enter through, most of the visitors take horse cart, local motorbike as taxi to and from Rongbuk or walk to Base Camp which takes approx. one hour)

Day 10:                  Drive to Zangmu 1,940 m – 06 hrs.
After exciting time with super views of Everest at its closest, morning a long drive to reach Zangmu a border town, from Rongbuk after few hour drive joining the main road Lhasa / Kathmandu highway at Old Tingri.

After a short stop continue drive heading over scenic Laylung pass at 5,050 m, with views of snowcapped peaks that borders Nepal and Tibet. After enjoying the views downhill to Nylam town and into forested area on leaving high and Tibetan dry plateau, drive leads through green forested area with views of beautiful waterfalls, after few hour drive from Nylam reaching Zhangmu town for last overnight stop in Tibet.

Day 11:                  Drive to Kathmandu via Kodari – 06 hrs.
Morning going through immigration at the border post of China, after passport and visa formalities, a short drive leads at Friendship Bridge separating Tibet / China with Nepal territory.

At the bridge bidding farewell to our Tibetan guides and driver, then walk into Nepal soil for the drive to Kathmandu, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to your hotels with afternoon free for individual activities and shopping.

Day 12:                 International departure for home ward bound.
After a memorable time and great journey on Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland & Everest Base Camp, with excellent services of White Hills Hill Adventure Treks & Expedition guides, as per the flight time our staff transfers you for the final departure homeward bound.

Please Note:

Tibet time as per Beijing Standard Time, 2 hrs and 15 minutes ahead than Nepal standard times, currency  is Chinese Remimbian Yuan which is about US$ 1 = Yuan 6-7 and NRS 17 for 1 Yuan.

Overland drive from Nepal or from Tibet and the entry point from Kodari (Nepal) to Zhangmu (Tibet-China) not possible at present due to broken road from landslide of 25th April & 25th May earthquakes.

The road might open for travel in near future we will keep in touch with us for updates regarding this situation.

The only means of entering Tibet is by air to and from Lhasa or from Kyarong of Langtang region which is just opened for foreign visitors.
