Mera Peak Climbing 

Introduction

Mera Peak Climbing is roughly a 16 days-long journey. The peak is the highest climbing peak. Mera Peak trek turns to be the most noteworthy for being accessible. It is a part of the Mahalangur Himalayas in the Khumbu region. It is a rather easy ascent for experienced trekkers. However, it proves to be a challenge for newer trekkers. Hence, trekkers are given short training beforehand. It is due to Mera Peak’s few steep slopes that this measure is taken. From the summit, five 8000 m peaks are visible.  They are Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Overview of the Mera Peak Climbing

First of all, Mera Peak Climbing starts by flying to Lukla. Kathmandu, the capital city, offers a city tour, and you also prepare for the climb on the same day. The actual trek begins from Chutanga. The trek slowly ascends from Chutanga to Thuli Kharka. This is via Zatrwa-La pass. Thuli Kharka stands at an elevation of 4200 m. It is the acclimatization point. Then, Thagnak follows Kothe. Likewise, the second acclimatization point is at Khare (5045 m).

Similarly, the high camp comes after crossing Khare. We will take climbing training at Khare and the high camp of Mera Peak. After the training the next day early morning around 2:00 AM we will climb to Mera peak. After the summit attempt, go back to Khare. From there, they finally go through the route of Thuli Kharka to reach Lukla. The next day from Lukla flies back to Kathmandu.

However, Mera Peak Climbing is a fantastic opportunity for beginners. It has hence all necessary elements of culture, nature, and adventure. October and November are the best months for this trip. March and April are also excellent, likewise. During the Mera Peak trek period, You can enjoy the beautiful High Himalayas mountain with a culture of Sherpa people.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu
You arrive at Kathmandu via Tribhuvan International Airport. Our staff will be waiting to welcome you, warmly. After brief introductions, you head to the hotel and refresh. In the evening, you can head out to explore some nearby areas. At dinner, you meet our staff again and discuss the trip's details.

Day 02: Kathmandu city tour and climbing preparation
After breakfast, you head for sightseeing in some of the famous places in the valley. The first destination is Kathmandu Durbar Square. You visit the museum and then explore the rest of the square freely. Then, you have some Newari snacks and head to Boudhanath Stupa. You explore the stupa and then have Tibetan style lunch. Then, you head to Swayambhunath Temple to see beautiful views of the valley. After the tour, you prepare for the climb by renting/buying necessary items.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lukla flight | 25 mins and trek Chutanga (3450 m) | 4 hrs
You head to the domestic airport and catch an early flight to Lukla. En route, you get to enjoy splendid aerial views of mountains like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Everest. At Lukla, you meet the local staff who will accompany you during the trek. Walking past rhododendron and pine trees, you arrive at Chutanga for overnight stay.

Day 04: Chutanga to Thuli Kharka (4200m) via Zatrwa-La pass (4610m) | 5-6 hrs
After breakfast, you trek uphill through the rhododendron forest. You walk along the Kalo Himal Ridge that separates Hinku Valley and Khumbu. As you walk further, the views of Dudh Koshi and Lumding Himal come into view. You may also encounter yaks and their herders. You then come across a huge boulder, which is in Thuli Kharka, and you stay overnight here in a camp.

Day 05: Thuli Kharka to Kothe (4095m) | 5 hrs
After breakfast, you hit the trail that winds downhill into the Hinku Valley. En route, you get to see spectacular views of Mera Peak, Peak 43, and Kusum Kanguru. Enjoy the magnificent surrounding as you walk through dense rhododendron and pine forests. Continue walking on the ridge to arrive at Kothe for overnight stay.

Day 06: Kothe to Thangnak (4350 m) | 5 hrs
Today, you walk through grazing lands for yaks. The trail goes along the ridge of Hinku Valley, and throughout the trek, you get to see amazing views of Mera Peak. You will pass the stunning 200-year old Lung Sumba Gompa. Continue ascending as you arrive at the end of the hill to Thangnak. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 07: Thangnak to Khare (5045m) | 3-4 hrs
After breakfast, you resume your trek through the grassy basin called Dig Kharka, which offers excellent views of Charpate Himal. The uphill walk through this basin is pleasant, and after a few hours, you start to see the campsite. Catch marvelous glimpses of Mera range as you walk to the highlands of Khare and set up camps for overnight stay.

Day 08: Acclimatization day in Khare
Today is a rest day. Since you'll be climbing to higher elevations, it is essential to acclimatize to it. After breakfast, you hike to the nearby areas to explore the place. The campsite has excellent views of Mera Peak, Mera La, and Hinku Sher Glacier. So, you can make use of your time hiking and exploring.

Day 09: Khare to High Camp (5780m) | 5hrs
The trail to High Camp is filled with boulders and rocks. You make your way through the rocky trail while enjoying the views of the surrounding landscape. Walk past Mera glacier and Naule glacier, and after a few hours, you arrive at a flatland, which is the camp. Relish the stunning views of snowy mountains all around. Set up tents for overnight stay.

Day 10: Climbing to Mera Peak Summit (6654 m) and trek back to Khare
The day has finally come to summit the peak. You wake up around 1-2 a.m. and start to prepare for the climb. The midday winds are very harsh and may pose a danger for your rise. So, it is best to start the hill as soon as possible. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and many other mountains of the Khumbu region. After soaking in the picture, you return to the camp at Khare.

Day 11: Khare to Kothe | 5hrs
After your successful climb, you head back and retrace the steps you took to ascend. Enjoying the views of the mountains and landscapes, you descend to Kothe through Thangnak. Once at Kothe, relax your aching body and enjoy the surrounding views. Enjoy the local delicacies as you share stories with your guide. Overnight in Kothe.

Day 12: Kothe to Thuli Kharka | 5-6 hrs
After breakfast, you enjoy the trek through rhododendron and pine forest. Walk past grazing lands as you enjoy the views of Mera Peak and its neighboring peaks. After a series of ups and downs, you arrive at Thuli Kharka. Once at Thuli Kharka, enjoy the views of Mera North, Mera Central, and Mera South. Overnight stay in Thuli Kharka.

Day 13: Thuli Kharka to Lukla |4-5 hrs
Today is the last day of trekking in the Khumbu region. After breakfast, you resume your trek and enjoy the environment as much as possible. Once you reach your lodge at Lukla, you refresh and join the local staff for farewell dinner. At dinner, feel free to share stories with the local people as you celebrate your successful climb.

Day 14: Lukla to Kathmandu flight
After breakfast, you head to the airport and catch an early flight to Kathmandu. Sometimes, the weather may delay the flight, so it is better to fly as early as possible. En route, you enjoy the aerial views of mountains and towering hills. From the domestic airport, our staff will take you to the hotel. Once at the hotel, you can relax and then enjoy a lavish dinner at one of the most excellent restaurants in the city. 

Day 15: Rest day/Shopping in Kathmandu
Today, you have the whole day to yourself. You can opt to rest, shop or do anything you like. If you wish to buy souvenirs, we can recommend some right places. You can also go for a gentle full body massage to relax your body. In the evening, return to the hotel to enjoy a farewell dinner with our staff.

Day 16: Airport Departure.
Today is the final day in Nepal. Please make sure you have all your belongings with you. As per your scheduled flight, our staff will drop you off at the airport. Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to see you again!
